Securitron TM-9 Time Mate Timer

The TM-9 takes a momentary input, a push button or key switch, and stretches it into a timed output so the door stays released long enough to get through with one hand. Two common uses: releasing an electric lock for a set interval, and shunting an alarm contact so the door contact does not re-arm the moment the door opens. It is a timing module, not a lock or a switch, so it goes between whatever the person presses and whatever you need held.

Anywhere from 2 to 36 seconds, set with DIP switches on the board. No pot to tweak and no meter needed, you pick the setting and it repeats the same interval every time. That range covers the usual cases: a few seconds to walk an unlocked door open, or a longer shunt while a cart or gurney clears the opening.

That is what it is built for. The TM-9 is a miniature timer sized to drop into an outlet box behind a push button or key switch, so you do not need a separate enclosure or a spot in the panel. On a retrofit where the only real estate is the single gang box at the door, that is usually the deciding factor.

12 or 24 VDC, or 24 VAC. It will run off the same supply feeding most maglocks, strikes and access panels, so in the typical case you tap the existing power rather than adding a transformer. It does not care whether the 24 volts is AC or DC.

The onboard relay is 3 amp SPDT, which handles a typical maglock or electric strike load directly in most installs. Because it is SPDT you get both a normally open and a normally closed contact off one device, so the same timer can drop power to a fail-safe lock and, on the other set, close a circuit to shunt an alarm zone. Size your load against the 3 amp rating; anything heavier needs a slave relay downstream.

It is not an alarm. The TM-9 is a timing relay, and where alarms come into it, its job is to shunt an existing contact so an authorized exit does not trip the zone. Rated for +32 to +158F (0 to +70C). That covers a warm interior, a mechanical room, and most protected vestibules, but it stops at freezing, so an unheated garage or an exposed exterior box in a cold climate is outside the operating range. In those openings, put the timer inside the conditioned space and run the wire out to the button.

Usually not for card reader traffic, since the panel times its own strike output. Where the TM-9 earns its place is on the circuits the panel never sees: a hardwired push to exit button, an ADA actuator, a key switch, or a local shunt on a door contact. Those are momentary and dumb, and the timer is what turns that pulse into a usable hold interval, right in the box at the door rather than back at the panel.
