The Electromechanical Handle (EMH) is designed for use on any push, pull or swing-through door. The EMH is equipped with an internal initiate that allows mechanical handle movement for specialized outdoor applications.

1) How does the Securitron EMH electromechanical handle release a maglock?
Pushing or pulling the EMH handle trips internal mechanical switches that operate a DPDT output rated 2 amps. That output can drop power to the lock for free egress, or start the countdown on an exit delay timer instead. There is no touch sensor or capacitive element involved, so the release happens on physical handle movement.
2) Can the EMH handle be installed on a swing-through or double-acting door?
Yes. The EMH is built for push, pull, or swing-through doors, so it works where the leaf swings both directions as well as on a single-direction opening.
3) Is the Securitron EMH rated for an exterior door?
No. Despite the internal initiate that suits it to specialized outdoor-style applications, the EMH is specified for indoor use only, with an operating range of 32 to 110 F (0 to 43 C). For a gate or a fully weather-exposed opening, this is the wrong device.
4) Will the EMH handle satisfy egress code on a maglock opening?
The EMH meets the "no special tools or knowledge" criteria for egress code requirements, since a normal push or pull on the handle releases the lock. It is UL 294 Listed, CSA-C22.2 No. 205 Listed, California State Fire Marshal approved, and CE approved to EN 50091-1 and EN 61000-6-2. Your AHJ still decides what the specific opening needs.
5) What voltage and current draw should I size the power supply for on a Securitron EMH?
The EMH runs on 12 or 24 VDC and draws 40 mA at rest, dropping to 25 mA while releasing. That is a small load, so in most cases it can share the same regulated supply feeding the lock it controls.
6) Does the EMH handle come with wiring, or do I need a separate door cord?
Wiring is in the box. Each EMH ships with 16 ft (4.8 m) of 22 AWG 3-conductor cable plus an armored door cord for the transition from frame to door, so no separate loop needs to be ordered.
7) What is the difference between the EMH and EL-EMH versions of the Securitron handle?
Electrically and mechanically they are the same handle; the EL prefix means the unit is ElectroLynx ready, with the quick-connect harness used on ElectroLynx door-to-frame wiring. Order EL-EMH if the opening is already built around ElectroLynx connectors, plain EMH if you are field-wiring the conductors.
8) How much door face does the Securitron EMH handle take up?
The handle measures 9 inches by 2-1/8 inches by 5 inches deep. On narrow stile aluminum doors, check the 2-1/8 inch dimension against your stile before committing to the prep.
9) Can the EMH handle be used with an exit delay timer for a controlled egress door?
Yes. The DPDT output fires on handle movement, and one set of contacts can initiate the delay on an exit delay timer rather than dropping the lock instantly. The other set is available for signaling or shunting an alarm point.
10) What finishes does the Securitron EMH handle come in?
Two anodized finishes: black (EMH-BK) and clear (EMH-CL). Both are offered on the standard handle and on the ElectroLynx version, so a building standardizing on dark storefront hardware and one on clear aluminum can both be matched.
