1) Will the Securitron WEMB electromechanical bar actually lock the door, or do I need a maglock with it?
The WEMB doesn't latch anything. It's a switch bar: pushing it throws a DPDT 5 amp rated output that releases a separate lock, so it has to be paired with a magnetic lock or feed a delayed egress timer as the initiate device. It's intended for magnetically locked, non-fire-rated openings. If you want a device that mechanically latches the door on its own, that's a rim exit device like the Corbin Russwin ED5200 or the TownSteel ED1100, not this bar.
2) Can a Securitron exit bar be used on an exterior door exposed to rain?
That's the difference between the EMB and the WEMB. Adding the W prefix gets you the waterproof switch version, which is what makes the bar usable outdoors. Operating range is -4 to +185F (-20 to +85C), and construction is all metal. Order it as WEMB-CL-42 style, W in front of the part number.
3) Will the WEMB bar fit a 2-1/4 inch thick door?
Yes, 2-1/4 inches is the door thickness the WEMB is rated to. Note the through-bolt detail though: on doors thicker than 1-3/4 inches you need the EMB-TDM to through-bolt the bar. The bar body itself is 3 inches high and 2-3/4 inches wide.
4) I'm replacing an old push bar and don't want to re-drill the door. Will the Securitron EMB line up with the existing holes?
It uses the same mounting pattern as the Securitron TSB-3 and DSB, so those swap straight across, and it retrofits most competitors' mounting patterns. Where the old holes don't line up, the TCP touch bar cover plates (set of two, TCP-BK black anodized or TCP-CL clear) cover leftover holes and stiffen the mounting area.
5) Does the Securitron exit bar meet egress code for a maglock release?
It's built to satisfy the "no special tools or knowledge" egress requirement, needs only 1/4 inch of travel to activate, and carries ANSI/UL 294 and CAN/ULC-S533 listings. Four individual switches give redundant operation on the release.
6) I need an exit device on a fire rated door, can I use an electromechanical push bar?
No. The Securitron EMB is designed for magnetically locked, non fire rated doors. For a fire rated opening use a latching rim device such as the Adams Rite 3700 Series 30 inch narrow stile rim exit device, the Dexter ED1000 Series Grade 1 fire rated rim device, the Marks USA M9900F in 36 or 48 inch, or the Orca Hardware OED85 Series 36 inch, all of which are fire rated.
7) What is the difference between the Securitron EMB bar and the SDC MSB550 switch bar?
Both are push bars that release an electromagnetic lock rather than latching into a strike. The Securitron EMB is an all metal bar that activates internal switches when pushed, comes in 36, 42 and 48 inch lengths, can be field cut up to 48 inches, and runs on 12/24VDC. The SDC MSB550 is a 36 inch mechanical switch bar with electromagnetic lock release, and SDC lists it for narrow or wide stile doors. Both are non fire rated applications.
8) Is the SDC PSB560 pressure sense bar an equivalent to a mechanical switch exit bar?
They serve the same maglock release role but sense differently. The Securitron EMB uses four individual switches for redundant operation and needs only 1/4 inch of movement to activate, with a DPDT 5 amp rated output. The SDC SureExit PSB560 is a 36 inch pressure sense bar with tri-failsafe technology, listed by SDC for narrow or wide stile doors and not fire rated. A buyer who wants a bar with waterproof switches for an exterior opening should look at the W prefix EMB.
9) The maglock is being removed and the door needs a real latching device, what replaces an electromechanical bar?

11) What is an electrified rim exit device compared to an electromechanical bar, and when do I need each?

24) Is a request to exit switch built into a panic device the same as an electromechanical exit bar?
They overlap but are not interchangeable.
