The Dual Sense Bar (DSB) is for use on magnetically locked, non-fire-rated doors. Specifically designed to address the most current building and life safety codes, the DSB features two independent switch circuits to release the lock. Simply touching the bar or engaging its mechanical movement will allow free egress. For indoor use only, the DSB can be installed on metal, aluminum or wood doors of all types. Securitron DSB-CL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Securitron DSB Dual Sense Bar be used on a fire-rated door?
No. The Dual Sense Bar is for magnetically locked, non-fire-rated openings only, and it's an indoor product. On a fire-rated opening you need a listed mechanical exit device, not a touch-sense release bar. Where the DSB does belong is an interior mag-lock opening that has to release for free egress: touching the bar or pushing it through its mechanical movement drops the lock through two independent switch circuits.
2) Will the Securitron DSB fit my door thickness and door material?
The DSB mounts on interior metal, aluminum or wood doors of all types, and it covers doors 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch thick when you add the DSB-TDM through-bolt kit. The bar itself measures 3 inches in both height and width, so check your top rail or stile has 3 inches of flat surface to land it on.
3) My door is an odd width. Do I have to order a custom length Dual Sense Bar?
No. The DSB ships in three standard lengths, 36, 42 and 48 inches, and it can be field cut to fit non-standard door widths, same as the TSB-3. Order the next length up from your door width and trim it on site rather than waiting on a special.
4) I'm replacing a Securitron TSB touch bar. Will the DSB drop into the existing holes?
Yes. The Dual Sense Bar uses the same mounting pattern as the TSB, so it goes back on the existing prep. If the door carries leftover holes from a different exit bar, add the TCP touch bar cover plates (TCP-BK black anodized or TCP-CL clear anodized, sold as a set of two), which cover unwanted holes and stiffen the mounting area.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering a Securitron Dual Sense Bar?
Three choices. Length: 36, 42 or 48 inches. Finish: black anodized or clear anodized. And whether you want the illuminated "Push To Exit" fiber optic strip. For ElectroLynx connectors, add "EL" to the front of the part number, for example EL-DSB-42. Add DSB-TDM if you're through-bolting, and TCP cover plates if you're covering an old prep. All eighteen combinations of length, finish and model are stocked options.
6) What is the difference between a Securitron touch sense bar and the Dual Sense Bar?
Redundancy. The DSB combines touch sense technology with a mechanical movement of less than 1/8 inch, on two independent switch circuits, so either action releases the mag lock. That redundancy is what current fire and life safety egress codes are looking for on an electronically locked opening, and it's why the DSB gets specified where a single-circuit touch bar won't clear plan review. It also meets the "no special tools or knowledge" egress criteria.
7) What voltage and current do I need to size a power supply for a Securitron DSB?
The DSB runs on either 12 or 24VDC, no jumper selection to worry about across those two. Draw is 24mA for the plain bar and 44mA with the illuminated "Push To Exit" option, so it's a trivial load next to the mag lock it's releasing. Operating range is +32 to +120F (0 to +49C), which is consistent with the indoor-only rating.
8) Does the Securitron DSB come with the door cord and wire, or do I order those separately?
Both are in the box: 16 ft (4.8m) of 22AWG six conductor cable plus an armored door cord. What you supply is the mag lock, the power supply and any request-to-exit interface on the panel side. If you're pulling into a hinge-side transfer, order the ElectroLynx version so it plugs into an ElectroLynx harness instead of being hard wired.
9) Will the Dual Sense Bar false trigger from a nearby card reader, neon sign or someone banging the door?
No on both counts. The DSB circuit board is immune to electrostatic discharge from switching power supplies, proximity and garment readers and neon signs, and it's tested to 27,000 volts electrostatic discharge. The bar is also bounce resistant, so an impact from the outside of the door won't drop the lock. That is the usual failure mode with touch-only release bars in retail and lobby installs.
10) Can the Securitron DSB be used on an exterior door or a gate?
No. The Dual Sense Bar is rated for indoor use only, and the operating range of +32 to +120F reflects that. For an exterior mag-locked opening you need a release device rated for outdoor exposure. Inside, it's fine on any interior metal, aluminum or wood door and is a commercial-duty device.
11) Can I get the Securitron DSB in a clear anodized finish with the illuminated Push To Exit and ElectroLynx?
Yes. Clear anodized is offered across all three lengths, and the illuminated and ElectroLynx-plus-illuminated builds are both available in clear anodized at 36, 42 and 48 inches. Black anodized covers the same range. Construction is all metal on either finish, so both hold up in rugged interior traffic.
