1) What does the Securitron XDT exit delay timer actually do on a door?
The XDT is the delayed egress control board behind a maglock opening. Someone pushes the door, the timer holds the lock for a set period while an alarm sounds, then releases so they can get out. It handles the BOCA 30 second relock function, and the nuisance delay plus release times are set with DIP switches on the board rather than a pot you have to trim by ear. Healthcare uses it to flag patient exit at a monitored door; retail uses it to slow a theft exit at a side door.
2) What is the difference between the XDT, BA-XDT and FA-XDT exit delay timers?
Three ways to buy the same delayed egress function. XDT is the board on its own, for dropping into an existing enclosure or a panel you already have on the wall. BA-XDT comes in a surface mount enclosure with the piezo sounder and the door label included. FA-XDT is the same thing in a flush mount plate enclosure, again with sounder and label. If the wall is already open or you are cutting in new, the flush version disappears into the wall; on a retrofit over finished drywall or block, take the surface box.
3) Will the Securitron XDT run on my 12 volt access control power supply?
Yes, and on 24 volt as well. The XDT is a 12/24VDC device and draws 100 mA at 12 VDC or 50 mA at 24 VDC. Voltage is an ordering choice, not a field jumper, so pick the 12V or the 24V version to match the supply feeding the maglock. Budget that current on top of the lock draw when you size the supply and the standby battery.
4) Can the XDT delay timer tie into my card reader and door position switch?
That is what the relays are for. The board carries three 5A SPDT relays for interface, so you have contacts for the lock output, for door and lock monitoring back to the head end, and for an authorized immediate exit input from a reader or a request to exit. Five amps at SPDT is enough to switch a maglock directly or to pass a dry contact to an access panel input.
5) Is the Securitron XDT listed for use on a delayed egress door in a hospital or school?
It carries ANSI/UL 294 Listing and California State Fire Marshal approval, and it performs the BOCA 30 second relock. Those are the listings a facility inspector and an AHJ ask for on a delayed egress opening. Confirm the local code officer signs off on delayed egress for your occupancy type before the door goes in, because that permission is about the opening, not the timer.
6) Can I turn the delayed egress off during business hours and back on at night?
Yes. The XDT accepts external switching, so a time clock or a scheduled output from the access system can put the board into a different function when you do not want delayed exit running. That is the usual setup on a retail side door that has to behave as a normal exit while the store is staffed and go back to delay after close.
7) Does the XDT exit delay timer come with the lock, or do I order the maglock separately?
The XDT is the timer and control side only, in board, surface box, or flush plate form. The magnetic lock, the power supply, and the release device on the door are separate line items. On a fresh delayed egress opening you are buying at minimum the timer, a maglock sized to the door, a supply matched to the 12 or 24 volt board, and whatever push pad or sensor triggers the delay.
8) Does the BA-XDT include the sounder and the signage, or do I buy those too?
Both are included on the enclosed versions. BA-XDT and FA-XDT each ship with the piezo sounder and the door label, so you are not sourcing the required exit signage separately. The bare XDT board does not carry them, which is the trade-off for putting it in a cabinet you already own.
9) How much wall space does the Securitron XDT take up?
The unit measures 5-1/4 by 2-1/2 inches, so it fits the narrow strip of wall beside a frame or inside a standard access control cabinet next to the power supply. Worth checking against your enclosure before you order the board-only XDT, since the surface and flush versions bring their own housing.
10) Is the Securitron XDT suitable for a residential rental door, or is it a commercial product?
Commercial. The XDT is built for commercial access control openings and it is generally the wrong tool on an apartment unit door, where a straightforward electric strike or standalone lock serves better.
