Securitron DEM680E Delayed Egress Magnalock

Building on the technology of the Securitron EcoMag Series, the DEM680E is a direct replacement for the iMXDA. Designed for applications that require a lock that delays the opening of a door, the DEM680E standard model is HUGS-compliant with specific code compliant models also available. For use on interior and perimeter exit, single, out-swinging doors..

Securitron DEM680E-628 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Securitron DEM680E delayed egress maglock work on a pair of doors or an in-swinging door?
No. The DEM680E is built for single, out-swinging doors on interior and perimeter exits. In-swing openings and pairs need a different approach, since the mag and armature geometry here assumes a single out-swinging leaf. Size was optimized so the housing clears a door closer on that same header.
2) Which DEM680E version do I order for a California job, and what is the difference from the standard model?
Timing is an ordering choice on the DEM680E, and it is code-driven. The standard model runs the HUGS-supporting delay. For California work there are 15 second and 30 second compliant versions, and the CSFM (California State Fire Marshal) approval applies to the DEM680E-CA only. Chicago has its own compliant version. Pick the timing to match the authority having jurisdiction over the building, because the delay period is what the inspector checks.
3) Can I put a delayed egress Magnalock on a 1 hour fire rated door?
The DEM680E carries UL 10C fire rating at 1 hour and is CAN/ULC S104 fire door conformant, so it is suited to a rated opening. It is also UL 294 Listed for access control equipment and built to NFPA 101 life safety requirements, which is what governs delayed egress in the first place.
4) I'm replacing a Securitron iMXDA. Is the DEM680E a direct swap?
Yes, the DEM680E is a direct replacement for the iMXDA. It builds on the Securitron EcoMag platform, so the delay logic, bond sensing and door position switch are all in the one housing rather than spread across separate boxes.
5) Do I need to set the DEM680E for 12 volts or 24 volts when I wire it?
Neither, and that is the point. The DEM680E is autosensing dual voltage at 12/24VDC with microprocessor control, so there is no field adjustment or jumper to set. Size your supply from the draw: 95mA minimum and 575mA maximum at 12 VDC, or 65mA minimum and 315mA maximum at 24 VDC, all plus or minus 10 percent.
6) Do I have to add a separate delayed egress control panel and door contact to the DEM680E?
No. Delay timing and detection are integrated into the lock itself, along with the patented BondSTAT magnetic bond sensor and an integrated Door Position Switch, so a separate DPS and controller are not part of the package. If you would rather run delayed egress from a wall panel driving existing hardware, the Dortronics 7101 Series EDR-101 delayed egress control panel with keypad console is the panel-based route.
7) How much holding force does the DEM680E have, and is that enough for an exterior perimeter exit door?
1,200 lbs [544kg] static holding force, which is the mid-range figure for a delayed egress opening where the delay circuit, not raw force, does most of the work. Rated Grade 2. Note the temperature and siting limit: 32 to 120 degrees F [0 to 49 C], indoor use only, so a perimeter exit door is fine as long as the lock itself sits on the conditioned side.
8) Can I tie the DEM680E alarm into my access control panel or a remote annunciator?
There's an external alarm relay on board, an isolated dry contact rated 1 A at 24 VDC, which is what you land on a panel input or an annunciator. On the door itself, LEDs on the secure side show status and an alarm strobe indicates the countdown, then stays lit after the alarm until someone resets it, so staff can see which opening tripped without going to the head end.
9) Can the delay times on the DEM680E be adjusted after installation?
Configurable settings on the DEM680E cover nuisance delay times, irrevocable alarm times, bypass delay times, and whether an irrevocable alarm follows bypass expiration. That last one matters for facilities that authorize staff exits regularly and do not want a latching alarm every time a bypass runs out. Door movement detection is auto calibrated up to 1/4 inch [6.35mm], so ordinary push-and-rattle on the door will not start a countdown.
10) Is the DEM680E suitable for a hospital infant protection system?
The standard timing model is HUGS-compliant, which is the infant security system used in maternity and pediatric units, and specific code compliant models are offered separately. For a healthcare facility standardizing across units, that is the version to specify.
11) Will the DEM680E release instantly when the fire alarm drops power?
Release is instant, with no residual magnetism holding the armature after power is cut. That is the behavior a fire alarm interface and a life safety inspection both depend on, since a mag that stays tacked to the plate for a moment after release reads as a failure on the door.
12) What finishes does the Securitron DEM680E come in, and can I match the other hardware on the opening?
Nine finishes across all timing versions: 600 primed for painting, 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 628 satin aluminum clear, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, and BSP black suede powder. Every finish is offered with each timing option, so a California 15 second unit can still match 630 hardware elsewhere in the building. The 600 primed option is there when you need the housing painted to the frame color.
