Integrated movement exit delay with all-in-one Magnalock. Prevent losses at emergency exits with Securitron iMXDa. Securitron IMXDA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Securitron iMXDa delayed egress maglock work on my in-swing door?
No. The iMXDa is built for out-swing doors, where the magnet mounts on the frame and the armature on the door face. On an in-swing opening you need a different mounting approach entirely. Where it does apply, the install goes on top of what is already there, no alteration or replacement of the existing latching hardware, fire-rated or not.
2) Do I have to replace my fire-rated exit hardware to add delayed egress with the iMXDa?
No, and that's the point of the design. The iMXDa mounts above the door and works alongside the existing latching hardware, fire-rated or non-fire-rated, with no alteration or replacement. Your fire door assembly and its listed hardware stay as they are.
3) Will the iMXDa fit over a door that already has a door closer on it?
Yes. The iMXDa magnet body is 12.5 inches overall, shortened specifically so it clears most closer installations at the head of the opening. The mounting bracket design also cuts install time compared with through-bolting a longer housing into a crowded header.
4) Which iMXDa model do I order for a job in California or Chicago?
Delayed egress timing is code-driven, so Securitron builds the jurisdiction into the model. Order the iMXDa-CA for California code compliant timing (the CA versions are the ones carrying California State Fire Marshal approval), and the iMXDaCH for Chicago's required timings. The standard iMXDa is the dual voltage integrated initiation unit with adjustable timing, the iEXDa takes its alarm initiation from an external panic device instead, and the iMXDaH is timed for a HUGS infant protection system.
5) What's the difference between the iMXDa and the iEXDa?
Initiation. The iMXDa senses the exit attempt itself through its own reverse action plunger, so it is a self-contained delayed egress unit. The iEXDa takes the alarm initiation signal from an external panic device instead, which is what you want when the exit device on the door is already switched and you want the push on the bar, not door movement, to start the delay timer.
6) Does the Securitron iMXDa need a 12V or 24V power supply?
Either. The iMXDa is automatic dual voltage with no field adjustment or jumper to set, so it takes 12VDC or 24VDC as wired. Size the supply for 370mA max at 12VDC or 270mA max at 24VDC per lock.
7) How do I stop the delayed egress lock from false alarming every time someone leans on the door?
The iMXDa uses a reverse action plunger with an adjustable alarm initiate gap from 1/8 inch (3.2mm) up to 1 inch (25mm), so you can allow up to a full inch of authorized door movement before anything triggers. A nuisance alarm delay of 0 to 3 seconds is also DIP switch selectable on top of that, which covers the brief push that is not really an exit attempt.
8) Is the Securitron iMXDa UL listed for delayed egress on a life safety exit?
It is UL Listed, specifically ANSI/UL 294 and CAN/ULC-S533 2008, under UL/cUL file FWAX.SA6635, and it is referenced to NFPA 101. The California versions carry California State Fire Marshal approval on top of that. That listing set is what an AHJ will ask for on a special locking arrangement at a required exit.
9) Can I mount the iMXDa on an exterior door or in an unheated warehouse?
Indoor use only. Operating range is +32 to +104F (0 to +40C), so an unconditioned warehouse that swings below freezing or above 104F is outside spec, and an exterior-exposed head is out regardless of temperature. Interior stair, ward, dorm, and stockroom exits are the intended applications.
10) For a California or Chicago code jurisdiction delayed egress opening, which delayed egress product covers the required timings?
The Securitron iMXDa is built in jurisdiction-specific models: iMXDa-CA15S and iMXDa-CA30S for California at 15 and 30 seconds, with California State Fire Marshal approval on the CA models, and iMXDaCH for Chicago required timings. The standard iMXDa is DIP switch selectable for 15 or 30 second irrevocable delay, and the whole family is ANSI/UL 294 and CAN/ULC-S533 listed and addresses NFPA 101. The Dortronics 7101 Series EDR-101 is the comparable delayed egress product as a control panel with keypad console; the iMXDa is what to specify when the approval and the timing package need to come as a factory model of the locking device itself.
11) Can I set the iMXDa to a 15 second delay instead of 30?
Yes, the irrevocable delay is user selectable at 15 or 30 seconds on the DIP switches. Also on those switches: external bypass delay of 0, 5, 10 or 15 seconds, post alarm reminder, bypass expiration alarm, and whether the lock relocks manually or automatically on a delayed timer (BOCA). For California jobs, take the delay out of the field settings and order the iMXDa-CA15S or iMXDa-CA30S, which are built to that timing.
12) Is the iMXDa strong enough for a heavily used exit door?
1200 lbs (544 kg) of holding force, which is the standard commercial figure for a single-door mag on a perimeter or emergency exit. Note it is the magnet holding a bonded armature, not a latch, so the mounting has to be solid at the header. The bracket-mounted design is what carries that load.
13) Does the iMXDa report door status back to my access control panel?
Yes. A microprocessor monitored BondSTAT magnetic bond sensor and an integrated door position switch are both standard, so you get real lock-bond status and door position without adding a separate DPS to the frame. For alarm output there is an isolated dry contact relay rated 1A at 24VDC, plus an external reset input and bright status LEDs readable from the secure side.
14) Do I need a separate delayed egress control panel with the iMXDa, or is it all in the lock?
All in the lock. The iMXDa combines the exit delay logic, the alarm, the sensing plunger, the bond sensor and the door position switch into the Magnalock itself, so one unit at the head of the door does the whole job.
