The SB-MXD consists of several components which will produce an initiate signal for delayed exit as controlled by Securitron's XDT logic timer. The distance depends on the door type and gap between the door and frame. This distance is typically in the 1/2" - 3/4" range [12-18mm].

Securitron SB-MXD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Securitron SB-MXD sex bolt actually do in a delayed egress setup?
The SB-MXD is a door movement sensor built into a sex bolt. It detects the door moving and sends the initiate signal that starts the delayed egress countdown, but only when it is wired to a Securitron XDT logic timer. On its own it does not time, alarm, or release anything, so the XDT timer has to be part of the order.
2) How much does the door have to move before the SB-MXD triggers?
Movement tolerance runs about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch (12 to 18mm). The exact trip distance depends on the door type and the gap between door and frame, so a door with a loose gap will travel closer to the top of that range before the signal initiates.
3) Will the SB-MXD work on a door thicker or thinner than standard?
Yes, with the right adapter. For doors more than 2 inches thick, add the SB-MXD Extension Tube, part #390-15690. For doors less than 1-3/4 inches thick, add the Shim Plate, part #390-15650. Standard thickness doors need neither. The bolt body itself is 2 inches deep and 15/16 inch wide.
4) Can I use a request to exit switch kit in place of the SB-MXD?
They do different jobs. The Securitron SB-MXD senses the door itself moving in its frame and signals the XDT logic timer to begin a delayed egress cycle. A request to exit kit signals that someone operated the hardware: the Command Access CRSREXKIT-ED is a field installable REX kit for Cal Royal 22/98 and Sargent 80 Series exit devices with an SPDT switch, and the Command Access REX-KIT-ML is a field installable REX kit for ML1-Series mortise locks. If your opening has no exit device or mortise lock to switch, or you specifically need door movement as the trigger, the SB-MXD is the one that fits.
5) Is there a way to initiate delayed egress from the push bar instead of from door movement?
Yes. The Securitron SB-MXD initiates the delayed egress signal by detecting door movement, with a typical travel of 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch between door and frame, and it works with Securitron XDT logic timers. If you would rather have the occupant's push on the bar start the sequence, the DynaLock 6451-36 is an exit sensor bar sized for a 36 inch door, mounted across the door face so pressure on the bar is the trigger. Movement detection works on doors of any width; a sensor bar is width specific and gives a defined push point for the user.
6) Is the Securitron SB-MXD UL listed?
Yes, the SB-MXD carries UL/cUL listing, which is what an authority having jurisdiction will look for on a delayed egress opening in a school, hospital, or similar facility.
7) Is the SB-MXD a complete kit or a single bolt?
It ships as a kit, described by Securitron as the Sex Bolt Kit - Door Movement, made up of several components that together produce the initiate signal. The Extension Tube and Shim Plate are separate parts ordered only if your door thickness calls for them.
8) I need the audible alarm for a delayed egress door, not the movement sensor. What should I look at?
The SB-MXD only supplies the door movement initiate signal; it makes no noise. For the sounder side, the RCI 914 Series delayed egress sounder has field-selectable volume up to 102dB. If you are adding a piezo horn to an existing circuit instead, the Adams Rite 29-0218 piezo electric horn is multi-voltage.
9) Does the SB-MXD include the alarm sounder for a delayed egress opening?
The Securitron SB-MXD is the sex bolt kit that produces the initiate signal for delayed exit as controlled by the Securitron XDT logic timer; the audible portion of the sequence comes from the timer and annunciation equipment you pair with it. If you need a separate sounder on the opening, the RCI 914 Series is a delayed egress sounder with field selectable volume output up to 102dB. The SB-MXD handles detection at the door, the 914 handles the noise.
10) What should I use if I need to know the latch is secure rather than that the door moved?
That is a latch monitor application, not a movement detector. The Securitron SB-MXD reports door movement in the 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch range to start a delayed egress cycle, and says nothing about latch position. For latch status on a Schlage L9000 mortise lock, the Command Access SCHLBMKIT-ML is a field installable latchbolt monitor switch kit with an SPDT configuration. Some facilities run both on a single opening, monitoring the latch for security status and the SB-MXD for egress initiation.
11) My delayed egress door is thicker than 2 inches - do I need a different product?
No, the Securitron SB-MXD adapts rather than being replaced. An extension tube, part 390-15690, covers doors more than 2 inches thick, and a shim plate, part 390-15650, covers doors less than 1-3/4 inches thick, so standard, thin and thick doors are all served by the same kit. Accessory-level adaptation is worth noting against openings where the alternative is changing the sensing method entirely, such as moving to a DynaLock 6451-36 exit sensor bar sized for a 36 inch door.
12) Is the SB-MXD meant for commercial openings or residential doors?
Commercial. It is a commercial-rated electronic access control component, normally installed with a Securitron Magnalock kit and an XDT timer on a controlled egress opening.
