Steel City HS907-1 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are the Steel City 2-1/2 inch conduit straps steel or plastic?
Steel. These are steel two-hole straps, which is what you want pairing with rigid or IMC. If the run is PVC, a PVC strap such as the Kraloy PS20 two-hole pipe strap is the matching material, and the Cantex 5133 is a PVC one-hole.
2) Do the Steel City HS 907 straps come with screws or anchors?
The strap is the only item supplied. Fasteners are chosen to suit the substrate, so you order wood screws, masonry anchors, or machine screws and toggle hardware separately based on what you are mounting to.
3) Which conduit strap should I standardize on for a mixed PVC and rigid installation?
You will need more than one part, because straps are sized to the raceway they clamp. For 2-1/2 inch rigid or IMC runs, the Steel City HS 907 steel two-hole strap is the fit. PVC runs take PVC-specific straps such as the Kraloy 078380 PS20 two-hole strap for 2 inch PVC or the Cantex 5133 series one-hole strap for 4 inch PVC. Spec by raceway type and trade size at each run rather than looking for a single strap to cover both.
4) Steel or aluminum for conduit straps - what is the practical difference?
The Steel City HS 907 two-hole strap is steel, which is the common choice for threaded rigid and IMC supports. Aluminum straps such as the Briscon SC Series are a lighter, non-ferrous alternative, and that series is configured as a one-hole fold-over strap for SE cable rather than a two-hole conduit strap. Match the metal to the raceway and to any dissimilar-metal concerns on the job.
