Steel City HS904-1 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Steel City HS 904 strap fit 1-1/4 inch rigid metal conduit and IMC?
Yes. The HS 904 is sized for 1-1/4 inch trade size rigid metal conduit and IMC, which share the same outside diameter at a given trade size. It will not hold 1-1/4 inch EMT correctly, since EMT runs a smaller OD at the same trade size.
2) What is the PVC equivalent of the Steel City HS 904 two-hole strap?
The Steel City HS 904 is a steel two-hole strap sized for 1-1/4 inch rigid/IMC conduit. For PVC runs, the Kraloy 078380 PS20 is a two-hole pipe strap in PVC for 2 inch pipe, so it keeps the same two-hole mounting pattern in a nonmetallic material at a larger trade size. Match the strap material to the raceway and the trade size to the conduit OD.
3) Can I buy Steel City HS 904 straps individually or only by the box?
Both. The strap is sold as a standard pack under part number HS 904, and as a single piece under HS904-1. Pick HS904-1 for a one-off repair, the standard pack for a full rough-in.
4) Do Steel City two-hole conduit straps come with screws or anchors?
The HS 904 is the strap only. You supply the fasteners to suit the surface, two per strap, whether that is wood screws into framing, self-drillers into metal stud or deck, or masonry anchors into block and concrete.
5) Can a Briscon SC fold-over cable strap be used in place of a Steel City HS 904 conduit strap?
No. The Briscon SC series is an aluminum one-hole fold-over strap made for SE cable, so it wraps flat cable rather than cradling round raceway. The Steel City HS 904 is a steel two-hole conduit strap sized to 1-1/4 inch rigid or IMC pipe. Use the SC series for service entrance cable and the HS 904 where you are securing threaded metal conduit.
