All three. The DC1604 ships as a Tri-Pack, so the same closer covers regular arm (pull side), top jamb, and parallel arm (push side) mounting. You decide at install, not at order time, which is why one part number can cover a mix of openings in the same building.

No handing to specify. The 600 Series surface closer is non-handed, so one unit serves both left and right hand doors. That is what makes it practical to stock a single closer for a whole property.

It retrofits traditional closer prep. The door preparation is 9-1/16 inch horizontal by 3/4 inch vertical with 4-hole mounting locations, which is the standard pattern most surface closers already use. Pull the old closer, check the existing holes against that 9-1/16 x 3/4 four-hole layout, and if they line up the new body mounts to the same points.

Up to 3-1/4 inches of reveal. The forged steel arm is an adjustable extension arm, so it takes up that reveal without a drop plate on most openings. Beyond 3-1/4 inches you are outside what this arm reaches and you need a different mounting approach.

The DC1604 is a size 4 closer with adjustable spring power. The spring adjusts across sizes 1 to 4 or 3 to 6, so it can be dialed down for a light interior door or up for a wide, heavy entrance. That range is why one unit can cover openings a fixed-size closer cannot.

Yes. It is UL/ULC listed up to a 3 hour fire rating, and it complies with ANSI A156.4 at Grade 1, tested to 2,000,000 cycles. That covers labeled openings in corridors and stairwells where the closer has to be listed hardware.

Fasteners come in the box. Metal screws are included for hollow metal and aluminum doors, and wood screws are included for wood doors. Thru-bolts are the one optional item, and those are worth adding on a hollow core or an abused high-traffic door where screws alone will pull out.

Sweep and latch are independent, adjustable, non-critical valves. Slow the sweep for an ADA-friendly closing pace and keep latch speed up so the door still throws the latch. Non-critical means backing a valve out too far will not blow the closer, which matters when a maintenance tech is adjusting it on a ladder.

The door range is up to 180 degrees, and the closer has an adjustable hydraulic backcheck that cushions the swing and prevents an uncontrolled opening. On a windy exterior entrance or a door with no wall stop, that backcheck is the feature doing the work.

A surface applied closer like the DC1604 mounts to the door face and frame with a 9-1/16 x 3/4 inch four-hole prep, so it goes onto doors already hanging with no frame machining. Concealed closers hide in the frame or the door top rail and need that prep done at fabrication. For a retrofit or a maintenance swap, surface applied is the one that installs in an afternoon; concealed is a choice you make when the doors are being ordered new and appearance drives the decision.
