Tell DC7016-REG-AL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Tell 700 Series closer be mounted parallel arm or top jamb, or is it pull side only?
It ships as a Tri-Pack, meaning the same closer mounts regular arm (pull side), top jamb, or parallel arm (push side). You choose the application at install, so you don't have to know the mounting side when you order. Metal screws for hollow metal and aluminum frames are in the box.
2) Is the Tell DC7016 closer approved for a fire rated door?
It is UL/ULC listed for up to 3 hour fire rated openings. It also complies with ANSI A156.4 and is Grade 1, rated to 2,000,000 cycles, which is the level typically specified for institutional and high traffic commercial doors.
3) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand version of the Tell 700 Series closer?
No handing to specify. The DC7016 is a non-handed surface closer, and because the Tri-Pack covers regular arm, top jamb, and parallel arm, the same unit works on either swing. Pick the finish and you're done: aluminum or duranodic.
4) What kind of arm comes with the Tell DC7016, and will it hold the door open?
An adjustable extension arm is supplied, which is the standard closing arm, not a hold-open arm. If you need the door to stay open at a set angle, you need a hold-open or friction hold-open arm instead. The DC7016 as supplied is a regular arm closer that returns and latches the door every time.
5) Should I use an adjustable spring size closer like the Tell 700 Series or a fixed size closer?
An adjustable 1-6 closer like the DC7016 is the better call when you are maintaining a portfolio of mixed openings or don't know the exact door width and wind load ahead of time. You set spring power on site to suit the door, and change it later if a door gets fitted with weatherstripping or the building gets a pressure change. A fixed-size closer only makes sense when the opening is known and will never change. For property managers stocking one closer for many doors, the adjustable unit reduces what you have to keep on the shelf.
6) Does the Tell DC7016 come with a cover, and will it match my aluminum storefront?
A full plastic cover is included, so the body is concealed after install. Finish choices are aluminum and duranodic, which are the two that typically line up with clear anodized and dark bronze anodized aluminum storefront framing. Glass front installers usually take duranodic on bronze frames and aluminum on clear.
7) Will the Tell 700 Series closer work on a wood door, or only metal frames?
The screws packed with the DC7016 are metal screws for hollow metal and aluminum mounting. For a wood door or wood frame you will need appropriate wood fasteners or a sex bolt set, which are not part of the pack. Plan that into the job if the opening is wood.
8) What is the arm made of on the Tell Pro Line 700 Series closer?
Forged steel main arm. That matters on exterior and high abuse openings, where the arm takes the brunt of a door being pushed past its stop or caught by wind. Paired with the Grade 1 rating and 2,000,000 cycle test, it's built for entrance traffic rather than light interior duty.
