1) Can I use the S35 LL body on EMT, or does it need threaded rigid conduit?
The hubs on the S35 LL body are threaded, so it mates with threaded rigid metal conduit or IMC in the matching trade size. EMT is not threaded. To tie EMT into this body you would need an EMT-to-threaded adapter or a set-screw/compression connector into a hub, which many inspectors will not accept outdoors. For EMT runs, use a set-screw or compression style conduit body instead.
2) Is the cover and gasket included with the LL125M conduit body, or do I order them separately?
The S35 LL body is sold as the body itself. The cover and gasket are separate items, matched to the body's trade size, so for a 1-1/4 inch LL125M you need a 1-1/4 inch size cover plus the gasket if the location calls for one. Plan on one cover and one gasket per body when you count out a job.
3) Does a malleable iron conduit body hold up outdoors or in a wet location?
Malleable iron is the standard material for threaded rigid conduit bodies in outdoor, damp and industrial runs, and it takes far more mechanical abuse than a die-cast or nonmetallic body. For wet locations the sealing comes from the cover gasket, so the body needs a gasketed cover to keep water out. In corrosive environments (coastal, chemical, wash-down) buyers usually specify PVC-coated rigid fittings instead of plain iron.
4) What is the difference between a Type LL and a Type LR conduit body when I am standing at the wall?
They are mirror images and that is the whole difference. Face the back of the fitting with the conduit entering from the top: on an LL the cover opening is on the left, on an LR it is on the right. Both make a 90 degree turn. Pick whichever puts the cover where you can actually reach it after the run is strapped up, because a body with its opening buried against a wall or a beam is useless for pulling. The S35 LL is the left-hand version, in malleable iron.
5) Can I standardize on these LL bodies across a facility if some runs are 2 inch and some are 4 inch?
Yes, within the sizes offered. The same S35 LL pattern covers 1-1/4, 2, 2-1/2, 3 and 4 inch trade sizes, all malleable iron, so a maintenance crew can stock one fitting type and one cover family across mixed conduit sizes. Covers and gaskets still have to be stocked per size, since those are not interchangeable between trade sizes.
