Metallics DRT24EC14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many threaded rods come in a pack of Metallics DRT24EC14?
Ten pieces per pack. Each is a 1/4-20 rod cut to 24 inches, which is the quantity most electrical and mechanical contractors buy for a run of hanger drops rather than a single stick.
2) Will 1/4-20 threaded rod work for hanging conduit and electrical box supports?
Yes. 1/4-20 is the smallest of the common hanger rod sizes and is used for light drops, single conduit runs, small boxes, and fixture support. For heavier trapeze runs or multi-conduit racks, contractors step up to 3/8-16 or 1/2-13 rod. The DRT24EC14 is a 1/4-20 rod at 24 inches, so it suits short drops from deck or joist.
3) Do nuts and washers come with Metallics DRT24EC14 threaded rod?
The pack is rod only, 10 pieces of 1/4-20 by 24 inch. Nuts, washers, rod couplings, and the anchor or beam clamp at the top of the drop are ordered separately, all in 1/4-20 to match the thread.
4) Can the DRT24EC14 rod be cut down to a shorter drop length?
Yes, 24 inch rod is routinely cut to length on site with a bandsaw, chop saw, or bolt cutter, then the thread chased with a 1/4-20 nut run off the cut end to clean it up. Ordering the 24 inch length and cutting is common practice when drop heights vary across a job.
5) What is the manufacturer part number for the Metallics 1/4-20 x 24 inch threaded rod?
The part number is DRT24EC14, from Metallics. That is the number to quote for the 1/4-20 by 24 inch rod supplied 10 to a pack.
