Klein Tools 27400 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a standard roll of tie wire fit inside this Klein reel?
The reel body measures 6-1/4 inches in diameter by 2-25/32 inches wide, so it's sized for the common pre-coiled tie wire rolls in 12 to 18 gauge. Measure your coil's outside diameter and width against those two numbers before you buy a case of wire.
2) Can a left-handed worker use the Klein 27400 tie wire reel?
Yes. The 27400 is built for left- or right-hand use, so the same reel works for either hand on a rebar or hanger-wire crew without ordering a second version. The rewind knob is oversized for gloved hands.
3) How heavy is the Klein tie wire reel to wear on a belt all day?
Empty, it weighs 2.35 lbs. The body is aluminum alloy with only the wear parts in steel, which is why it stays light while the high-contact points hold up. Add the weight of your wire coil on top of that.
4) Does the Klein tie wire reel come with wire included?
No wire is supplied. The 27400 is the reel only, so order your tie wire separately in 12 to 18 gauge pre-coiled rolls. You'll also want approved eye protection, which Klein calls for whenever the reel is in use.
5) Is the Klein 27400 wire reel aluminum or steel, and will it hold up on a jobsite?
Mostly aluminum alloy for the reel body, with the wear parts made of steel. That combination is what keeps it under two and a half pounds while putting metal that can take abrasion at the points the wire and the mechanism actually rub.
6) How do I order the Klein tie wire reel, and is there more than one version?
One configuration only: Klein Tools model 27400, the lightweight aluminum tie wire reel. No handing, finish, or size options to specify, so the part number is all a purchasing desk needs.
