Topaz Lighting 24 Schedule 40 PVC Special Radius Elbow, Plain End

The Topaz Lighting Schedule 40 PVC Special Radius Elbow delivers smooth, reliable direction changes in conduit raceway systems, with plain spigot ends for straightforward solvent-cement assembly to standard Schedule 40 PVC conduit and fittings. This elbow family is available in 22.5°, 45°, and 90° special radius angle configurations and trade sizes ranging from 1/2" through 4", giving contractors and engineers the flexibility to match virtually any raceway layout. Manufactured from rugged, noncorrosive, nonconductive Schedule 40 PVC and cULus Approved, it is suitable for both above-ground and below-ground electrical conduit installations.

Key Features

  • Trade Size Range: Available in 1/2" through 4" trade sizes to match a wide range of raceway diameters.
  • Angle Options: Offered in 22.5°, 45°, and 90° special radius configurations for low-friction wire pulling and smooth routing around layout changes.
  • Durable Construction: Manufactured from Schedule 40 PVC — rugged, noncorrosive, and nonconductive — for long-lasting performance without rust or galvanic corrosion.
  • Plain Spigot Ends: Clean, plain spigot finishes on both ends for secure solvent-cement joining to standard Schedule 40 PVC conduit and fittings.
  • Above & Below Ground Suitability: Rated for use in both above-ground and below-ground conduit installations across commercial, industrial, and utility applications.
  • Nonconductive Material: Inherent electrical nonconductivity eliminates the need for bonding or grounding of the fitting itself.

Topaz Lighting 83 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What angles and trade sizes do the Topaz Lighting Schedule 40 PVC elbows come in?
Three sweep angles are offered. The 90 degree elbow covers 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 and 4 inch trade sizes; the 45 degree covers 1-1/4, 2 and 3-1/2 inch; and there is a 22.5 degree elbow in 2-1/2 inch. Match the trade size to the conduit run you are turning, then pick the angle the layout needs. Two 45s stacked give you a gentler direction change than a single 90 when you are worried about pulling tension.
2) How do the Topaz PVC elbows connect to conduit, and do I need glue?
Both ends are plain spigot ends, so they solvent cement into the bell end of standard Schedule 40 PVC conduit or into couplings. There are no threads and no set screws. You supply the PVC cement; it is not part of the fitting. If your run is threaded metal conduit, this is the wrong fitting for it.
3) Are the Topaz PVC conduit elbows UL listed for a commercial job?
The elbows are cULus approved, which covers both the US and Canadian listings. That is the mark an inspector or a spec on the drawing normally looks for on a nonmetallic raceway fitting.
4) Can a Schedule 40 PVC elbow be buried, or is it above ground only?
Schedule 40 PVC of this type is rated for both above ground and below ground conduit installation, so the same elbow works in an exposed run and in a duct bank or direct burial trench. That is one reason spec writers standardize on it across a site instead of stocking two families of fittings.
5) Do I have to bond or ground a PVC conduit elbow?
PVC is nonconductive, so the elbow itself is not part of any equipment grounding path and needs no bonding bushing or grounding jumper. Your equipment grounding conductor is pulled inside the raceway instead, the way it is anywhere a nonmetallic raceway is used. If you need the raceway itself to serve as the ground path, you want metal conduit and metal fittings, not this.
6) Will a PVC elbow hold up in a wash-down area or a corrosive plant environment where steel conduit rusts?
PVC does not rust and will not suffer galvanic corrosion, which is exactly why it gets specified in moisture-prone and chemically aggressive spaces where EMT or rigid steel gives up. The tradeoff is mechanical: PVC has no impact resistance to compare with steel, so in areas subject to physical damage the raceway still needs to be routed or protected accordingly.
7) What is the difference between a 22.5 degree, 45 degree and 90 degree conduit elbow, and which should I order?
It is purely the amount of direction change. A 90 turns the run square, typically coming up out of a slab or turning into a wall. A 45 splits a turn into two gentler bends so the pull is easier on the conductors, and it is what you use to offset around an obstruction. The 22.5 is a shallow correction, used for slight grade or alignment changes in a long underground run where a 45 would overshoot. Available here: 90 degree in 1/2 through 4 inch, 45 degree in 1-1/4, 2 and 3-1/2 inch, and 22.5 degree in 2-1/2 inch.
