TOTO THP4145#BN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is TOTO THP4145#BN and what does it do?
THP4145#BN is a TOTO lift rod assembly for a sink pop-up drain. The lift rod is the vertical rod that comes up through the faucet body or deck; pulling it raises and lowers the pop-up stopper in the drain. It is a replacement part for the pop-up linkage, not a complete drain body or faucet.
2) My TOTO sink stopper won't stay up or won't seal - do I need this lift rod?
If the stopper no longer holds position, the failure is usually in the lift linkage rather than the drain body. THP4145#BN replaces the TOTO lift rod assembly, which is the rod side of that linkage. Order it by the exact TOTO part number THP4145 for your faucet, since TOTO lift rods are model specific and a rod from another series will not line up with the faucet body.
3) Will the TOTO THP4145#BN lift rod work on a tub or shower drain?
No. The THP4145 lift rod assembly is a sink part, meant for a lavatory pop-up drain operated from the faucet deck. Tub waste and overflow assemblies use a different trip lever or lift linkage, so this is the wrong part for a tub or shower.
4) What does the #BN suffix mean on TOTO part THP4145?
On TOTO part numbers the code after the hash is the finish. THP4145#BN is the Brushed Nickel version of that lift rod. If your faucet is polished chrome or another TOTO finish, you want the same THP4145 base number with the matching finish suffix so the exposed rod matches the trim at the deck.
5) Is the drain body or pop-up stopper included with THP4145#BN?
No. THP4145#BN is the lift rod assembly only. The drain body, tailpiece, pivot rod and stopper are separate TOTO parts. If you are rebuilding a whole lavatory drain, plan on ordering the pop-up drain assembly as well.
6) Can I use a generic hardware-store lift rod instead of the TOTO THP4145?
A universal rod can work mechanically, but it rarely matches on two points: the finish at the faucet deck and the thread and length that mate to TOTO's clevis strap. For a property manager keeping TOTO trim consistent across units, the factory THP4145 in the matching finish is the part that keeps the exposed rod looking like the rest of the faucet.
