TOTO THP4965#BN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO part THP4965#BN?
THP4965#BN is a TOTO service part: a thermostatic handle assembly, supplied in TOTO's Brushed Nickel finish (the #BN suffix). It's the handle you order when the temperature control handle on a TOTO thermostatic valve trim is damaged, worn, or the wrong finish, rather than a complete valve.
2) Will the THP4965#BN handle work on a pressure balance shower valve?
No. THP4965#BN is built for thermostatic trim, where the handle indexes to a temperature-limiting cartridge. Pressure balance and volume control trims use different handle assemblies, so ordering this one for a non-thermostatic valve will leave you with a part that won't index correctly. Match the handle to the thermostatic valve model you have.
3) Does TOTO THP4965#BN come in finishes other than brushed nickel?
The THP4965 handle assembly is offered here in Brushed Nickel only, designated by the #BN suffix. TOTO uses that same suffix convention across its trim, so a #BN handle will match other TOTO Brushed Nickel trim in the same bath, which matters if you're replacing one handle on a wall of fixtures and need it to look like the rest.
4) I manage apartments and need to replace just a broken shower temperature handle. Do I have to replace the whole valve?
Not if the valve body and cartridge are sound. A thermostatic handle assembly like THP4965#BN is a service part, so you can swap the handle at the trim and leave the in-wall valve untouched. That keeps the job to a trim-level repair with no wall opening. If the problem is temperature drift or no hot water rather than a loose or cracked handle, the fault is in the cartridge, not the handle.
5) Is the TOTO THP4965#BN a complete shower trim kit?
No. It's the thermostatic handle assembly only. It does not include the valve body, the cartridge, the shower head, or the spout. If you're building out a new opening you need the full trim kit plus the rough-in valve; order THP4965#BN only when the handle itself is what you're replacing.
6) How do I make sure I order the right TOTO handle for my thermostatic valve?
Go by the TOTO part number stamped or documented for your trim, not by appearance. TOTO handle assemblies are model-specific, and THP4965#BN fits the thermostatic trim it was built for. Pull the model number of your existing shower trim first, then confirm THP4965 is the handle called out for it. The #BN at the end only sets the finish, Brushed Nickel.
