TOTO THP4965#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO THP4965#CP?
It's a TOTO replacement handle assembly for a thermostatic valve, ordered as part number THP4965#CP. You're buying the handle assembly itself, not a complete valve or trim kit, so it's the part to order when the existing handle on a TOTO thermostatic mixing valve is stripped, cracked, or missing.
2) Will the THP4965#CP handle fit any TOTO shower valve, or only thermostatic ones?
Thermostatic only. The THP4965#CP is built as a thermostatic handle assembly, so it mates to the stem of a TOTO thermostatic mixing valve. A pressure balance or volume control valve uses a different stem and a different handle part, and this one will not seat on it. Match the handle to the valve type you actually have before ordering.
3) What finish does the TOTO THP4965 handle assembly come in, and are there other options?
Polished chrome is the only finish offered on this handle assembly; the #CP suffix in TOTO's numbering is their polished chrome code, and THP4965#CP is the single part number available. If your valve trim is brushed nickel or a matte finish, this handle won't match it and you'd need the equivalent TOTO handle in that finish code.
4) I manage apartments with TOTO shower trim - can I just swap the handle instead of the whole valve?
Yes, if the fault is the handle. THP4965#CP is sold as a handle assembly for TOTO thermostatic valves, so a handle that spins freely, has stripped splines, or is broken off can be replaced without touching the rough-in valve body in the wall. If the water temperature itself is drifting or won't regulate, the problem is the thermostatic cartridge rather than the handle, and this part won't fix it.
