TOTO THP5251 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THP5251 repair part?
THP5251 is the volume stem and vapor barrier for a TOTO diverter valve, ordered as a single part number. It is a diverter-type repair component, not a complete valve body and not a trim kit, so you are replacing the stem assembly inside a valve that is already in the wall.
2) My TOTO shower diverter won't hold volume or leaks past the handle. Is this the part to order?
For a worn volume/diverter stem, THP5251 is the correct TOTO service part, and it includes the vapor barrier that seals the stem. If the problem is at the pressure-balance cartridge or the valve body itself, a stem replacement won't fix it, so confirm what's failing before you pull the trim.
3) Is the TOTO THP5251 diverter stem for a shower or a tub valve?
Both. TOTO lists the THP5251 volume stem and vapor barrier for shower and tub applications, so it covers tub/shower diverter valves as well as shower-only installations.
4) Can I order the THP5251 in a finish to match my shower trim?
No finish choice applies here. THP5251 is a single part number with no finish options, because the volume stem and vapor barrier sit behind the escutcheon where nothing is visible. If you need a finish match, you are looking for the trim or handle kit, not this stem.
