Astragal. The 1099RGHA is the version without an astragal, while the 1098RGHA is the same pull with an astragal. If you have a pair of doors needing the gap between leaves covered, you want the astragal version; for a single leaf, the 1099RGHA is the one.
2) Can a Trimco anti-vandal pull be used with an exit device or a cylindrical lock, not just a mortise lock?
The 1090 Series pulls as a family can be mated to exit devices, mortise locks or cylindrical locks. The 1099RGHA specifically is built to mate with a specified mortise lock or deadlock and is ordered with or without cylinder prep. If your opening has a BEST or PDQ SFIC cylindrical lock, the 1099RG is the matching no-astragal model; for a PDQ LFIC cylindrical lock it is the 1099RGL.
3) Do I need to order the Trimco 1099RGHA with cylinder prep?
That depends on whether a keyed cylinder passes through the pull. The 1099RGHA is offered with or without cylinder prep, and the prep has to match the lock you are mating it to, so specify the mortise lock or deadlock at the time of order. If no exterior cylinder is going through the pull, order it without prep.
4) Will an anti-vandal pull actually stop someone ripping the door open with a chain or attacking the cylinder?
That is the point of the design. The 1090 Series pull has no exposed handles or fasteners to tamper with, and the shape gives a rope, chain or hook nothing to grab onto.
