Trimco TRI-1109-1.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Trimco 1109-1 cast pull ADA compliant for a public building entrance?
Yes. The 1109-1 is listed as ADA compliant, and it gives 1-1/2 inches of hand clearance between the grip and the door face, which is what lets a user operate it without tight grasping. Trimco also states the 1109 series is BHMA Certified. It is a commercial-rated, heavy duty pull, so it suits public buildings, government facilities, retail and multifamily openings.
2) Will the Trimco 1109-1 line up with my existing pull holes at 5-1/2 inch centers?
It will if your existing prep is on 5-1/2 inch centers, which is what the 1109-1 is drilled for. That is the single mounting dimension on this model, so if the door is bored for a different center-to-center you would be drilling new holes or moving to a different pull size.
3) Is a 5-1/2 inch pull long enough for a main entrance door, or do I need a longer one?
At 5-1/2 inch centers the 1109-1 is a grip-style pull, sized for one hand, typical on office, restroom, and interior commercial doors or paired with a push plate. For a storefront or main entry where people expect a full-length handle, look at a long pull instead, such as the Deltana SSP1210 12 inch contemporary pull or the ABH AB3330 offset round end pull with custom length options.
4) Which pull do I order for a night latch cylinder application?
The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, in stainless steel construction, and is the one prepped for a cylinder. The Trimco 1109-1 is a plain cast tapered pull with no cylinder provision.
5) How far does the Trimco 1109 tapered pull stick out from the door?
Projection is 1-7/8 inches off the face of the door, with 1-1/2 inches of that being open grip clearance. Worth checking on a pair of doors with an astragal, on a door swinging into a tight corridor, or anywhere a projection limit is on the drawing.
6) What is the Trimco 1109-1 pull actually made of?
Solid cast brass or bronze, not tubular or plated pot metal. That is why it carries a heavy duty rating for commercial traffic, and it is also why the finishes are true architectural finishes rather than coatings over a light stamping.
7) What finishes does the Trimco 1109 cast tapered pull come in?
Five: 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 613E Dark Oxidized Satin Bronze, 622 Matte Black, 626 Satin Chrome, and 628 Satin Aluminum. If you are matching existing door hardware across a building, 626 and 628 are the usual commercial pairings with satin chrome and aluminum trim, while 613 and 613E match dark bronze entrance packages.
8) What is the difference between the Trimco 1109 cast pull and a round bar offset pull like the Ives 8102HD?
The 1109 is a cast tapered grip in brass or bronze, so the profile changes section along its length and the material is the same solid metal all the way through. The Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull built from 3/4 inch round bar with 1-1/2 inch clearance, the same clearance the 1109 gives. Pick the cast tapered pull when the opening is an architectural or decorative one; pick round bar when you want a plain utility profile.
9) If I need a matching pull on both sides of the door, back to back, is this the right part?
The 1109-1 is the single pull. For a true back-to-back set supplied as a pair, the Deltana OHP620 offset handle pull ships as a back-to-back set, and Deltana also lists the SSPOBB24 and SSPORBB24 24 inch back-to-back pulls. Note the OHP620 is specified for 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inch doors, so it is not a match for a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door.
10) What is a stainless steel option if I do not want a brass or bronze pull?
The ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull handle, 7/8 inch diameter, with through-bolt mounting. The Trimco 1109-1 is cast from brass or bronze instead, in finishes such as 613 oil rubbed bronze, 622 matte black, 626 satin chrome and 628 satin aluminum.
11) What should I use if I need pulls on both faces of the door rather than one side?
The Deltana OHP620 off-set handle pull ships as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch thick, and the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset pull. The Trimco 1109-1 is a single cast tapered pull on 5-1/2 inch centers, so a back-to-back application would need a pull for each face.
