1) Will the Trimco 1223 or 1224 floor stop hold a door open, or does it only stop it?
Both. The 1223 and 1224 are floor stop and holder units, so they arrest the door swing and hold it open when you engage the holder. If you only need the door stopped and never held, a plain base stop mounted to the wall or baseboard is the simpler part, since a holder on the floor is one more thing to trip over in a corridor.
2) What is the difference between the Trimco 1223, 1224 and 1224-5 floor stops?
Height and fasteners are the whole difference. The 1223 stands 3-5/8 inches tall and ships with wood screws. The 1224 is the same 3-5/8 inch height but comes with combo pack fasteners for more than one floor material. 3) Which Trimco floor stop do I need for a door with a big undercut over carpet?
Go with the 1224-5 at 5-3/4 inches. A 3-5/8 inch stop (the 1223 and standard 1224) can end up below the bottom of a door that has been undercut for carpet or an air return, and the door rides straight over it. Measure from the finished floor to the bottom edge of the door in the open position and pick the stop that lands on the door face, not under it.
4) Can I mount a Trimco 1224 floor stop on a concrete floor?
The 1224 and 1224-5 ship with combo pack fasteners, which is the version to order when the floor is not wood. The 1223 comes with wood screws only, so on concrete, tile or terrazzo you would be buying anchors separately. For a mixed job where some openings are wood subfloor and some are slab, the 1224 keeps it to one part number.
5) Is a Trimco floor stop rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
