1) Does the Trimco 1261 floor stop hold the door open, or does it only stop it?
It does both. The 1261 is a combination floor stop and holder from Trimco's 1260 Series, so it takes the impact of the door swing and will also catch and hold the door in the open position rather than letting it drift back. If all you need is a bumper that stops the door and never holds it, a plain floor stop is the simpler part to order.
2) My exit door opens onto a sidewalk that steps down, so a floor stop has nothing to sit on. What should I use instead of the Trimco 1261?
Not the 1261 in that case. Where paving or steps fall away from the exit door, Trimco's 1260WP strike and holder combination is the one built for it: the pipe raises the strike off the falling grade and can be extended to catch and hold the door open. Trimco notes the pipe is not practical over 2 feet, and a 12 inch pipe can be supplied on request. Use the 1261 where the floor under the door swing is flat and continuous.
3) Does the Trimco 1261 floor stop come with the screws, and will it mount into both wood and concrete-backed floors?
Wood and machine screws are the fasteners supplied with the 1261. The wood screws go into a wood subfloor; the machine screws are for a threaded or tapped anchor. If you are fixing into concrete or tile, you will need to add the appropriate anchors yourself, since the machine screws thread into an anchor rather than bite into masonry on their own.
4) Is the Trimco 1261 floor stop rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. Trimco lists the 1261 as commercial grade hardware and calls out schools, public buildings and factories as its typical use, along with government and military facilities, retail and strip malls, and commercial or industrial buildings. It is not a light residential bumper.
