1) Does the Trimco 1267 hold the door open, or is it just a bumper?
It does both. The 1267 is a floor-mounted stop with a hold-open, so the door stops at its open position and stays there until you release it. Trimco assigns it ANSI/BHMA code L01301, which is the designation for a floor stop with holder rather than a plain stop. If all you want is a bumper that stops the door and lets it swing back freely, you want a floor stop without the holder function instead.
2) What screws come with the Trimco 1267 floor stop, and can I mount it on concrete?
The 1267 ships with wood and machine screws. Machine screws let you fasten into a tapped hole or a threaded anchor, and the wood screws cover a wood subfloor. Concrete is not covered by what is in the box, so if you are setting into a slab you will need to supply your own anchors sized to the machine screws.
3) Should I use a floor stop or a wall stop on my exit door?
That depends on what is behind the door. A wall stop only works if the door swings to a wall within reach of the leaf; where it opens into open floor, a corridor, or out onto a landing, the stop has to come off the floor, which is what the 1267 does. Trimco builds the 1260 Series with both floor and wall mounting options for that reason. On an exterior exit door where the paving or steps fall away from the opening, neither ordinary approach works well, and Trimco makes the 1260WP strike and holder combination with a pipe mount for exactly that condition.
4) My exit door opens onto steps that drop away from the threshold. Will a Trimco floor stop still catch it?
A stop set into the floor needs floor under the door leaf to work, so where the grade drops off at the threshold it has nothing to sit on. Trimco's answer in this family is the 1260WP strike and holder combination on a pipe mount: the pipe can be run to whatever length is needed, though it is not practical past about two feet, and it catches and holds the door in the open position. Trimco can supply a 12 inch pipe on request.
5) Is the Trimco 1267 floor stop rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. Trimco classes the 1267 as a commercial product, and the 1260 Series it belongs to is aimed at schools, public buildings and facilities, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, and retail. For a property manager standardizing across a building, that means it is the same class of part you would spec for a corridor or exterior exit door, not a light-duty residential bumper.
6) Will the Trimco 1267 hold-open work with a door closer already on the door?
Yes. A mechanical hold-open floor stop like the 1267 works against a closer by catching the door at the open position and holding it until someone kicks it free. Worth knowing before you spec it: on a fire-rated opening, a mechanical hold-open is not permitted, because the door has to be free to self-close. Those openings need an electromagnetic hold-open tied into the fire alarm instead. On non-rated doors, corridor, classroom, stockroom, loading, the 1267 is the straightforward choice.
7) Is the Trimco 1267 the same part as the 1268, and do the mounting holes line up?
They are different models in Trimco's 1260 Series and they do not share a template. Trimco publishes the 1267 hole pattern on the combined template covering the 1261, 1263, 1265, 1267 and 1260W, while the 1268 and 1268CK each get their own separate templates. If you are replacing an existing Trimco stop and want to reuse the floor holes, pull the template for the model actually in the floor rather than assuming the family drills alike.
8) What finishes does the Trimco 1267 floor stop and holder come in?
Seven, all standard BHMA numbers so they match the rest of the trim on the opening: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. If the building is standardized on 626 satin chrome levers and hinges, which most commercial work is, the 626 stop is the match.
