1) Does the Trimco 1265 hold a door open, or is it only a floor stop?
Both jobs in one piece of floor mounted hardware. The 1265 stops the door at the end of its swing and catches it in the open position, so you are not buying a separate holder for the same opening. It carries the ANSI/BHMA designation L01301, which is the number to put on a hardware schedule when the spec calls out a floor stop and holder.
2) Our hardware schedule calls out ANSI/BHMA L01301 for the floor stops. Does the Trimco 1265 satisfy that?
L01301 is the designation the 1265 carries, so it matches a schedule written to that number directly. It is a commercial item rather than a residential one, which is what matters when a facility spec is driving the order and someone downstream tries to substitute a builder grade stop.
3) The pavement outside our exit door drops away, so a floor stop has nothing solid to catch against. What do we use there?
That condition is exactly where a standard floor mounted stop and holder like the 1265 runs out of room, since it needs floor directly under the door leaf to do anything. Trimco's answer in the same 1260 Series is the 1260WP strike and holder combination, which puts the catch on a pipe. The pipe can be extended to whatever length reaches the door, though Trimco does not consider it practical past 2 feet, and a 12 inch pipe can be supplied on request.
4) What screws come with the Trimco 1265, and can I fasten it down on a concrete floor?
Both wood and machine screws ship with the 1265. The wood screws handle a wood subfloor. The machine screws are what you thread into an anchor, which is how a floor stop goes down on a concrete slab or over tile, so budget the anchors as part of the install rather than expecting them to solve the concrete side on their own.
5) Floor stop or wall stop for a door that swings into open floor with no wall behind it?
Floor stop, every time, when there is no wall in the arc of the swing or the surface behind the door is glass, millwork or drywall that will not take repeated impact. The 1265 is the floor mounted stop and holder in Trimco's 1260 Series, and that series covers both floor and wall mountings, so an opening that does have a solid wall behind it can be handled out of the same family and keep the finish consistent across the building.
6) I need floor stops that match the finish already on the doors across our property. What does the Trimco 1265 come in?
Seven finishes, all called out by BHMA number so you can match the existing trim without guessing at a color name: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. If the levers and hinges on your openings are 626, that is the standard commercial satin chrome and the 1265 lines up with it.
7) Is the Trimco 1265 heavy enough for a school corridor, or is it a light duty stop?
Commercial duty. Trimco puts the 1260 Series stops and holders in schools, public buildings and factories, and the 1265 is designated for commercial use, not residential.
