Trimco 1229B Silencers Used on Wood Frames

The 1229B is the wood frame silencer. For a hollow metal frame you want the 1229A instead, which is the metal frame version of the same 1229 Series. The difference is the stem: wood frame silencers press into a drilled hole in the wood stop, metal frame silencers snap into the punched hole in the steel frame. Ordering the wrong one means it either won't seat or won't stay put. Trimco also makes the 1229EL grey elevator bumper in the same series.

Silencers only quiet the impact. The 1229B is a small rubber plug in the frame stop that cushions the door face and kills the metallic bang, and it takes up minor gaps between door and stop. It does not slow the door down or control it. If the complaint is that doors slam hard, that's a door closer problem, and the silencer is what you add on top so the final contact is quiet. If the complaint is rattle and noise transfer between rooms, silencers alone will handle it.

Two ways to order: per piece, or a pack of 100. If you're stocking a maintenance cart or silencing every door in a building, the 100 pack is the one, and typical practice is three per single door (two on the strike jamb side, one on the head) so a pack of 100 covers roughly 33 openings. Buy per piece when you just need to replace a few that have fallen out.

Commercial grade. The 1229B is a commercial door hardware item in high grade rubber, and Trimco lists it for commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, hospitality, office buildings, and retail. It'll work fine on a residential wood frame, but it's specified for buildings where doors get slammed all day.

No fasteners. The 1229B is a friction fit rubber silencer, installed by pressing it into a drilled hole in the wood frame stop. No screws, no glue, no tools beyond a drill bit sized to the stem if the frame isn't already prepped. That's why they're replaceable one at a time when they get pulled out during painting.

Grey rubber. The 1229B ships in grey, which is the standard color for hiding against a painted or stained wood stop. If you're matching a light or white painted frame, the series is offered in white as well.
