The patented Trimco 1283 Adjustre Series is the only self-adjusting door holder manufactured. With a strike made of solid brass or bronze and featuring spring-loaded ball bearings allowing for tension adjustability. These unique stops and holders are self-adjusting to compensate for up to 1/2″ of vertical door sag. Multiple options for floor and wall strikes are also available as well as a lockable version for use with a padlock (i.e. school gymnasium).

1) Will a Trimco 1283 Adjustre door holder still catch if my door has sagged?
That is the point of the 1283 Adjustre. It self-adjusts to compensate for up to 1/2 inch of vertical door sag, so the strike still engages after the door has dropped on its hinges. The strike is gripped by hardened 1/2 inch diameter ball bearings, and those spring-loaded bearings are what let the holder pick up the strike at a slightly different height instead of missing it. On an older opening where a fixed hook-and-eye style holder has stopped catching, this is the fix.
2) What is the difference between the Trimco 1283-2S, 1283-4S and 1283-6S?
The difference is where the strike lands. The 1283-2S is the floor stop and holder, so the strike mounts in the floor. The 1283-4S and 1283-6S are wall stop and holder versions with an adjustable wall strike, which mount the strike on the wall behind the door. Pick the floor version where you can drill the slab and the door swings to a clear floor area; pick a wall version where you cannot penetrate the floor, or where a floor-mounted strike would be a trip hazard or an obstacle to cleaning.
3) Can the holding tension on the Trimco 1283 be adjusted after it is installed?
Yes, and without pulling the unit off the door. Gripping tension on the 1283 Adjustre is set with easy-to-reach security screws, so a maintenance tech can tighten it up on a heavy exterior door that keeps pulling free, or back it off on a light door in a school corridor where staff are fighting to release it. The grip itself comes from spring-loaded ball bearings clamping the strike.
4) Does the Trimco 1283 Adjustre stop the door as well as hold it, or do I need a separate bumper?
It does both. The 1283 is a combination stop and holder, with a concealed tamper-proof rubber cushion taking the impact when the door swings into it. No separate wall or floor bumper is needed at that point of the swing. The cushion being concealed matters in detention and secure work, where an exposed rubber tip is something to be pried off.
5) How does the Trimco 1283 attach to the door, and will it pull out of a hollow metal door?

7) Is there a door holder that can be padlocked to keep a door open?
Trimco makes one in this family: the 1283LS is built for use with a padlock so the door locks in the open position. That is the version specified for places like a school gymnasium, where doors need to stay open through an event and nobody should be able to swing them shut. The standard 1283 models hold the door but do not accept a padlock.

Seven finishes across all three models: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Every one of those is offered on the floor 1283-2S and on both wall models, so if you are standardizing a building you can match the floor holders and the wall holders in one finish. The strike itself is solid brass or bronze.
9) Is the Trimco 1283 heavy duty enough for a school or hospital corridor?
