The new base design allows the distributor to stock Trimco latches without having to maintain inventory for several different functions or door hands. 1500 SERIES HOSPITAL LATCHES OVERVIEW

Trimco’s 1500 Series Push/Pull Latches features a sleekly designed, cold-forged steel base assembly. This refinement allows for improved lever action and simple field reversibility, regardless of the door hand or function. The new base design allows the distributor to stock Trimco latches without having to maintain inventory for several different functions or door hands.

The Trimco Push/Pull latch was originally designed to serve hospital staff, and ensure positive latching for patient protection in event of fire. Its aesthetic appearance, ease of operation, versatility and dependability have led to extensive use in modern buildings. Today, Trimco’s latches are considered the standard of excellence in all types of commercial and industrial structures.

Every 1500 Series latch is equipped with Trimco’s unique, patented, Positive Fire-Feature. The finest in the industry! A fusible link with a low melting point provides lockup of the corridor side push pad in the event of a fire, preventing ceiling debris or fire-hose pressure from accidentally releasing the latchbolt and creating a life-threatening situation. Trimco’s 1560 and 1580 latches are approved by Underwriter’s Laboratories for use on fire-rated openings up to and including 3 hours.

Trimco TRI-1502.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Trimco 1502 and does it come with the push/pull paddles?
The 1502 is the latchbolt alone for Trimco's 1500 Series hospital push/pull latches, cut to a 2-3/4 inch backset. It is a replacement part, so no lever pads, covers, or roses come with it. If you are building a complete opening you need the full 1500 Series push/pull latch, such as the 1562AP tubular passage unit with levers down and engraving.
2) My existing hospital latch measures 5 inches from the door edge to the center of the bore. Is the Trimco 1502 the right latchbolt?
No. The 1502 is the 2-3/4 inch backset latchbolt. For a 5 inch backset on the same 1500 Series, the correct part is the Trimco 1503. Measure from the door edge to the center of the cross bore before you order; a 5 inch prep will not accept the 2-3/4 inch latch.
3) Do I have to order a left hand or right hand latchbolt for a Trimco 1500 Series push/pull?
Handing is not an ordering decision here. The 1500 Series base assembly is field reversible, so hand and function can be changed on the job without a different part number. That is the reason a distributor can stock one latch instead of a bin for every hand and function.
4) Can I use a Trimco 1502 latchbolt on a fire rated corridor door?
The fire listing sits with the complete latch, not the latchbolt. Trimco's 1560 and 1580 latches are approved by Underwriters Laboratories for fire rated openings up to and including 3 hours, and every 1500 Series latch carries the patented Positive Fire-Feature, a fusible link that locks up the corridor side push pad in a fire so ceiling debris or hose pressure cannot release the latchbolt. Confirm the unit on your door is a 1560 or 1580 before treating the opening as UL approved.
5) I have several Trimco 1500 Series latches across a building and only the latch is worn out. Can I replace just that?
Yes, that is exactly what the 1502 is for. It is a replacement latchbolt for the 1500 Series at a 2-3/4 inch backset, so you keep the existing paddles, covers, and door prep and swap only the worn part. Check each door for backset before you stock up, because 5 inch backset openings take the 1503 instead.
6) Will a Trimco push/pull hospital latch meet ADA for a patient room door?
Yes. The 1500 Series push/pull latch is ADA compliant, which is the point of the paddle: it operates with a forearm, elbow, or hip and needs no tight grasping, pinching, or wrist twist. That is why these latches ended up on hospital, assisted living, and restaurant doors well beyond their original patient-room use.
7) Is the Trimco 1502 latchbolt heavy duty enough for a hospital corridor that gets constant traffic?
It is rated heavy duty for commercial service, and the 1500 Series base assembly is cold-forged steel rather than cast. A nylon insert in the latchbolt face quiets the latch action and cuts friction, which matters on a corridor door cycling all day and on a patient wing at night.
8) Are Trimco hospital latches available with antimicrobial copper for an infection control spec?
Yes. Lever pads and latch covers on the 1500 Series are made from bronze, brass, or antimicrobial copper, all rated for heavy duty use. The antimicrobial copper option is the one facilities specify for infection control work; the 1502 latchbolt itself is the internal component and is finished in 625 bright chrome or 626 satin chrome.
9) Do I need to order a tubular or a mortise version of the Trimco 1500 Series latch?
The 1500 Series is offered with either a tubular or a mortise lock, so match whatever prep is already in your door. Other order-form choices on the series are the function, engraving, Torx screws, and which combination of paddles points up or down. The 1502 latchbolt is the 2-3/4 inch backset replacement piece for that assembly.
10) Which finishes does the Trimco 1502 latchbolt come in?
Two: 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome, and both are available on the 1502 and the 1502RV. In a healthcare or institutional building 626 satin chrome is the one that usually matches existing push/pull trim, since it hides handling marks better than the bright finish.
11) Does a Trimco push/pull latch stick out far enough to be a problem in a narrow corridor or on a gurney route?
Projection is less than 50 percent of other push/pull latches, which is the reason these get specified on tight corridors and gurney routes where a deep paddle catches a bed rail or a cart. The 1502 latchbolt is the internal component of that assembly.
