The Trimco Push/Pull latch was originally designed to serve hospital staff, and ensure positive latching for patient protection in event of fire. Its aesthetic appearance, ease of operation, versatility and dependability have led to extensive use in modern buildings. Today, Trimco’s latches are considered the standard of excellence in all types of commercial and industrial structures.

Every 1500 Series latch is equipped with Trimco’s unique, patented, Positive Fire-Feature. The finest in the industry! A fusible link with a low melting point provides lockup of the corridor side push pad in the event of a fire, preventing ceiling debris or fire-hose pressure from accidentally releasing the latchbolt and creating a life-threatening situation. Trimco’s 1560 and 1580 latches are approved by Underwriter’s Laboratories for use on fire-rated openings up to and including 3 hours.

1) Does the Trimco 1505 come as a complete push/pull latch or is it just the latchbolt?
Just the latchbolt. The 1505 is a replacement part for an existing 1500 Series push/pull hospital latch, not a full assembly, so it does not include the lever pads, latch covers, or the base assembly. If you are outfitting a new opening you need a complete unit such as the 1562AP push/pull latch (tubular, passage, levers down, engraved). Order the 1505 when the latch hardware on the door is sound and the bolt itself is worn or damaged.
2) Do I need to specify the hand of the door when ordering a Trimco 1500 Series latchbolt?
No. Handing is not an ordering decision on the 1500 Series. The cold-forged steel base assembly is field reversible, so hand and function can be changed on site regardless of which way the door swings. That is also why a distributor can stock one latch rather than carrying separate left-hand and right-hand parts. What you do have to get right is the backset: the 1505 is a 5 inch backset bolt.
3) What is the difference between the Trimco 1505 and the 1505RV?
Action direction. The 1505 is the standard latchbolt and the 1505RV is the reverse action version. Both are offered in 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. If you are replacing a bolt in an existing opening, match whichever one is in the door now, since reverse action changes which direction the paddle drives the bolt.
4) Can I use the Trimco 1505 latchbolt on a fire-rated opening?
Handle this by model, not by series. Trimco states UL approval for use on fire-rated openings up to and including 3 hours for its 1560 and 1580 latches specifically, so if you are working a rated opening, the complete latch model on the door is what governs. Separately, every 1500 Series latch carries Trimco's patented Positive Fire-Feature: a low melting point fusible link locks up the corridor side push pad in a fire, so falling ceiling debris or fire hose pressure cannot accidentally retract the latchbolt.
5) Will a Trimco 1505 latchbolt hold up in a hospital corridor or a busy restroom?
It is a heavy duty commercial part, built for exactly that traffic. The 1500 Series push/pull latch was originally developed for hospital staff use and is in service in health care facilities, assisted living, restaurants, and public and commercial buildings. The latchbolt face carries a nylon insert that quiets the latch action and cuts friction, which matters on a door cycled hundreds of times a day. This is not a residential-grade part.
6) Does the Trimco 1500 Series push/pull latch meet ADA requirements?
Yes, the 1500 Series hospital latch is ADA compliant. Push/pull paddle operation is the reason: it releases with a forearm, elbow, or closed fist, so it needs no tight grasping, pinching, or wrist twisting. That is why these show up on patient room and public restroom doors where lever or knob trim would be questioned. The 1505 is the replacement latchbolt inside that assembly.
7) Can I get a 1500 Series push/pull latch with a mortise lock instead of tubular?
Both are offered. The 1500 Series options run to multiple functions, tubular or mortise locks, engraving, Torx screws, and different combinations of paddles up and down. Torx screws are the ones to call out on public restrooms and corridors where standard screws get picked at. Since hand and function are field reversible on the base assembly, the lock type and paddle orientation are the real decisions at order time.
8) What finishes does the Trimco 1505 latchbolt come in?
Two: 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome, and both are available on the standard 1505 and on the reverse action 1505RV. In a facility standardized on satin chrome trim, 626 is the one that matches; 625 is the polished version. On a latchbolt most of the part is buried in the door, so the finish decision is really about matching the exposed face plate to the rest of the openings.
9) What is the Trimco 1500 Series latch made of, and is there an antimicrobial option?
Lever pads and latch covers in the 1500 Series are made from bronze, brass, or antimicrobial copper, all rated for heavy duty use, and the base assembly under them is cold-forged steel. The antimicrobial copper option is the one specified for patient care and food service areas where touch surfaces are a concern. Trimco also calls the pads thicker and heavier than competing units, which is the failure point on push/pull hardware that gets abused.
