Trimco’s 1500 Series Push/Pull Latches features a sleekly designed, cold-forged steel base assembly. The new base design allows the distributor to stock Trimco latches without having to maintain inventory for several different functions or door hands.

The Trimco Push/Pull latch was originally designed to serve hospital staff, and ensure positive latching for patient protection in event of fire. Its aesthetic appearance, ease of operation, versatility and dependability have led to extensive use in modern buildings. Today, Trimco’s latches are considered the standard of excellence in all types of commercial and industrial structures.

Every 1500 Series latch is equipped with Trimco’s unique, patented, Positive Fire-Feature. The finest in the industry! A fusible link with a low melting point provides lockup of the corridor side push pad in the event of a fire, preventing ceiling debris or fire-hose pressure from accidentally releasing the latchbolt and creating a life-threatening situation. Trimco’s 1560 and 1580 latches are approved by Underwriter’s Laboratories for use on fire-rated openings up to and including 3 hours.

1) Will the Trimco 1562 hospital latch work on a left hand door, or do I have to order handed?
Order either hand and you're covered. The 1562 is built on a cold-forged steel base that reverses in the field, so hand and function can be changed on the job without a different part number. Both Left Hand and Right Hand are offered across all three finishes, but a distributor stocking these doesn't need to carry both to cover an opening.
2) What backset does the Trimco 1562 push/pull latch need in the door?
5 inch backset. That's a deeper bore than the 2-3/4 inch a standard cylindrical lockset uses, so an existing 2-3/4 inch prep will not take it without re-drilling. Trimco's 1502 latchbolt is the 2-3/4 inch backset option in the 1500 Series if you need to match a standard prep instead.
3) Does a hospital push/pull latch hold a fire rated door shut, or does the push pad release it?
Every 1500 Series latch carries Trimco's patented Positive Fire-Feature: a fusible link with a low melting point locks up the corridor side push pad in a fire, so ceiling debris or fire hose pressure cannot knock the paddle and release the latchbolt. 4) Which function do I order for a patient room versus a corridor door?

7) Is a Schlage ALX44 hospital privacy lock the same thing as a Trimco 1562A hospital latch?
No. The Schlage ALX44 is a Grade 2 cylindrical non-keyed lever lock in a hospital privacy function - a conventional lever you grip and turn, medium duty.
