Trimco TRI-7160.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Why does a door pull need handing, and how do I tell right hand from left hand?
Because the 7160 is an offset pull, not a straight bar. One end steps away from the door face, so the grip leans toward one side of the opening and the pull has to be built as a right hand or left hand part. Handing is required at order. The straight version in the same family, the 7150 fOCAL cane pull, has no offset to orient.
2) What is the difference between E-Mount and G-Mount on the Trimco 7160?
E-Mount is a thru-bolt with a finish washer, so the fastener passes through the door and shows a washer on the opposite face. That is what you use when there is only one pull on the opening. G-Mount is the back-to-back arrangement, using a threaded shoulder bolt and set screws so two pulls bolt into each other through the door with no exposed washer. Pick G-Mount if you are hanging a matching pull on both sides.
3) Does the 10 inch center-to-center on the Trimco 7160 mean it will land on my existing pull holes?
Only if the existing pull is also drilled at 10 inches between fastener centers, which is a common commercial pull spacing. The 7160 is a fixed 10 inch center-to-center, so there is no adjustment to take up a difference. Measure hole center to hole center on the door before ordering; if yours is something else, a custom length offset pull such as the ABH AB3330 gives you spacing flexibility the fixed 7160 does not.
4) I need an ADA compliant offset pull for a commercial entry. What are my options besides the Trimco 7160?
The Trimco 7160 fOCAL offset cane pull is ADA compliant and BHMA certified, with a 1 inch diameter grip on 10 inch centers. The other ADA-specific offset option is the Ives 8145EZHD, a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware that is listed as ADA compliant. The Ives 8169 C style offset pull is also 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting if you want to keep the same grip diameter as the 7160.
5) What is the closest equivalent to the Trimco 7160 offset cane pull from another manufacturer?
The Trimco 7160 fOCAL is a 1 inch diameter offset-hung cane pull on 10 inch centers. The closest cross-brand match in offset geometry and bar diameter is the Ives 8169, a C style offset solid door pull in 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting. The ABH AB3310 offset flat end door pull and the ABH AB3330 offset round end pull are also offset-configuration commercial pulls. The Trimco 7160 differs in that it carries a matte black poly grip over the metal bar, so if you want an all-metal offset pull the Ives 8169 or the ABH offset models are the direction to go.
6) Should I use the offset 7160 cane pull or the straight 7150?
The 7160 is the offset version and the 7150 is the straight one, both 10 inch center-to-center, 1 inch diameter, with the same matte black poly grip. Offset gives you knuckle clearance off the door face and reads as a lever-style grab on an entrance. Straight is the simpler line for a flush surface and needs no handing call. Function is the same; it is a clearance and appearance decision.
7) What finishes does the Trimco 7160 cane pull come in, and can I match existing brass hardware?
Eight finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless steel and 630 satin stainless steel. For a building already standardized on brass trim, 605 or 606 lines up; 630 satin stainless is the usual match for commercial lever and push plate hardware. Base metal is stainless steel, brass or bronze depending on finish.
8) Is the Trimco 7160 cane pull heavy enough for a high traffic retail or multifamily entrance?
It is classed heavy duty and specified commercial, with a solid stainless steel, brass or bronze body. Trimco lists it for commercial and industrial buildings, retail and strip malls, hospitality, multifamily and mixed use, and office buildings. For a main entrance getting constant pull cycles, that is the duty class you want.
9) Which offset pull should I look at if the opening needs a longer grip than 10 inches?
The Trimco 7160 fOCAL is built on a 10 inch center-to-center offset bar. For a longer offset grip, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset door pull and the Deltana SSPORBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back round offset pull. The ABH AB3330 offset round end pull is offered with custom length options. Note the Deltana sets are supplied back-to-back, so they mount a pull on each face rather than one side.
10) Is the Cal-Royal PUL-175 an alternative to the Trimco 7160?
No, they are not interchangeable. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height in stainless steel, which mounts around a rim cylinder so the door can be pulled at the cylinder. The Trimco 7160 fOCAL is a 10 inch center-to-center offset cane pull with a 1 inch diameter grip, ordered with handing and a door thickness and mounted E-Mount or G-Mount. If you need a hand grip on the door, the 7160 is the correct part; the PUL-175 is a cylinder trim piece.
11) Is there a smaller diameter pull than the Trimco 7160 for a lighter door?
The Trimco 7160 fOCAL uses a 1 inch diameter bar in stainless steel, bronze or brass. For a slimmer grip, the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull in 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull built on a 3/4 inch round bar with 1-1/2 inch clearance. Both of those are straight pulls, so you lose the offset geometry of the 7160.
12) Is the matte black grip part of the finish, or separate from the metal?
Separate. The 7150/7160 fOCAL cane pulls use a matte black poly grip over the 1 inch diameter metal body, so the grip stays matte black regardless of which of the eight metal finishes you order. That two-tone look is the point of the fOCAL line.
