1) What is the difference between E-Mount and G-Mount on Trimco AP400 pulls?
E-Mount and G-Mount are the two mounting styles offered on the AP422. They are the mechanism by which the standoff attaches to the leaf, and Trimco publishes a separate drilling template for each one (AP400E and AP400G, in both straight and offset versions). Pick the mount first, then pull the matching template so the shop drills the leaf to the right pattern.
2) When do I need to add the MidPost option on a long ladder pull?
MidPost is a required yes/no choice on the AP422 and it adds a third standoff in the middle of the bar. On the long sizes, 72, 84 and 96 inches, the extra post is what keeps a 1-1/4 inch bar from flexing under daily traffic and gives the fasteners a third bearing point. On 12 to 36 inch pulls it is normally answered No.
3) Can Trimco AP400 ladder pulls be mounted on glass doors?
Yes. The AP400 Series offers mounting options for metal, wood and glass doors, so the same AP422 bar can be specified for a glass entrance as well as a hollow metal or timber leaf. The glass application depends on the leaf being pre-drilled, so the hole pattern has to be in the glass order.
4) I need a back-to-back pull set for a 1-1/4 inch door. Is the Trimco AP422 the right choice?
The AP422 starts at 1-3/8 inch door thickness, so a 1-1/4 inch leaf falls below its range. The Deltana OHP620 off-set handle pull is supplied as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inches, which covers that thinner leaf. If your door is actually 1-3/8 inches or heavier, the AP422 is in range.
5) What is the closest equivalent to a Trimco AP422 ladder pull from another manufacturer?
The Trimco AP422 is a straight ladder pull with radius ends on 1-1/4 inch diameter stainless steel bar. The closest straight round-bar commercial pulls from other makers are the ABH AB3300 straight flat end pull handle at 1 inch diameter, the Ives 8103HD heavy duty straight door pull at 1 inch round with through-bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD heavy duty straight pull on 3/4 inch round bar with 1-1/2 inch clearance. All three are straight-standoff round pulls; the AP422 differs in its larger 1-1/4 inch bar and its radiused end caps rather than flat ends.
6) I need an offset pull instead of a straight one - what should I use in place of the AP422?
The AP422 uses straight standoffs, so the bar runs parallel to the door face for its full length. If the opening needs the grip angled away from the door, the ABH AB3310 offset flat end pull, the ABH AB3330 offset round end pull, the Ives 8169 C style offset solid pull at 1 inch diameter, and the Ives 8145EZHD 45 degree offset pull are all offset commercial pulls. 7) We need back-to-back pulls on a pair of doors - does the AP422 handle that, or is there an alternative?
The AP422 is offered with E-Mount and G-Mount mounting and with engraving available for single or back to back pulls, and it is specified against door thickness from 1-3/8 inch up to 3 inch. If you want a pre-configured back-to-back set instead, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset pull set, the SSPORBB24 is the 24 inch back-to-back round offset version, the Deltana OHP620 is an offset handle pull back-to-back set for 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch doors, and the Sure-Loc PL-2KN is a double-sided knurled long pull. Note the OHP620 thickness range stops at 1-3/8 inch, so thicker commercial leaves point back to the AP422.
8) What finishes does the Trimco AP422 ladder pull come in?
Thirteen finishes are orderable: 316P and 316S bright and satin stainless, 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 satin brass blackened, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 628 satin aluminum, 629 bright stainless and 630 satin stainless. If you are matching existing openings in a building, order by the BHMA number rather than the finish name, since several of these read similarly by eye but are different base metals.
9) What is the difference between the Trimco AP422 and the AP421 or AP424?
All three are 1-1/4 inch diameter ladder pulls in the AP400 family, and the difference is purely the standoff geometry and the end treatment. AP422 has straight standoffs and radius (rounded) ends. AP421 is straight standoffs with square ends. AP424 is offset standoffs with radius ends, which pushes the bar away from the leaf and is what you use when a lock, rail or glass frame gets in the way of a straight post. AP425 gives you angled ends and AP427 square groove ends on the same diameter.
10) Should I use a 1, 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 inch diameter ladder pull?
The AP400 Series is built in all three, and the model number tells you which: AP411 through AP418 are 1 inch, AP421 through AP428 (including the AP422) are 1-1/4 inch, and AP431 through AP438 are 1-1/2 inch. The 1-1/4 inch bar of the AP422 is the middle grip, which suits most commercial entrances. Go up to 1-1/2 inch when the pull is long and you want it visually proportionate to a tall leaf; go down to 1 inch on lighter interior or narrow-stile doors.
11) What else could I use instead of a Trimco AP422 ladder pull on a commercial door?
If you want a straight round-bar pull from another maker, the ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull at 1 inch diameter, and the Ives 8103HD is a 1 inch round heavy duty straight pull with through-bolt mounting. For an offset bar, the ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull with custom length options and the Ives 8169 is a 1 inch C style offset. The AP400 Series is the current designation for what Trimco formerly sold as the 1160/1170 Series ladder pulls. Take the existing centre-to-centre off the door and order the closest stock length, and confirm E-Mount or G-Mount against the existing hole pattern.
13) Is the Trimco AP422 pull stainless steel?
Stainless steel is the substrate recorded for the AP422, and the series is produced in stainless, bronze, brass or aluminum depending on the finish you specify.
