The K0064 is the .064 inch thick kick plate in Trimco's K Series. Trimco builds the same kick plate profile in .038 (K0038), .050 (K0050), .064 (K0064) and .125 (K0125). The .050 is the standard heavy duty thickness; .064 steps up from that for openings taking carts, luggage or constant foot traffic, and .125 is the heaviest plate offered. All four cover the 7 to 16 inch high kick plate range.
2) Is a Trimco K0064 kick plate or an armor plate right for a high abuse door?
Height is the dividing line. The K0064 kick plate covers 7 to 16 inches, which protects the bottom of the door from shoe and cart strikes. If damage is happening higher up, from gurneys, pallet jacks or hand trucks, go to Trimco's KA064 armor plate, same .064 thickness but 17 to 48 inches high. For nothing more than mop and bucket contact at the very bottom, the KM064 mop plate runs 6 inches high or less.
3) What finishes does the Trimco K0064 kick plate come in, and will it match the rest of my door hardware?
Six finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black and 630 satin stainless steel. For a building standardized on 630 satin stainless, which is the most common commercial spec, the 630 plate matches the levers, hinges and push plates on the same opening. Match the BHMA number, not the description, when you are keeping a fleet of doors consistent.
4) Does a kick plate on the door affect ADA clearance?
The Trimco K0064 kick plate is ADA compliant. At .064 inch thick with a pencil bevel on all four edges as standard, it adds almost nothing to the door face and leaves no sharp leading edge, which is what matters on the push side of an accessible opening.
5) Can I get a Trimco kick plate cut around a mortise lock or a louver?
Yes. Trimco cuts the K Series plates to order with louver cutouts, mortise cutouts and rosette cutouts, plus custom sizes and shapes. Other options are heavy bevel (HB), countersinking (C), round corners (RC) and adhesive tape mounting instead of screws. Get the cutout dimensions off the actual door before the plate is made, since a cut plate is job specific.
6) What material is the Trimco K0064 kick plate, and is stainless the right choice for a wet or exterior opening?
Stainless steel is the substrate on the K0064. Trimco makes the K Series in brass (BR), bronze (BZ), aluminum (AI) and stainless steel (SS), all manufactured in the U.S.A. Stainless is the one to use on kitchen, restroom, loading dock and exterior doors where the plate gets mopped, hosed or weathered. Brass and bronze are chosen for appearance on lobby and hospitality openings.
7) Can the Trimco K0064 kick plate go on with adhesive instead of screws?
Adhesive tape mounting is an option on the K Series, which is the route to take on a fire door where you do not want new penetrations, or on a hollow metal door you would rather not drill. The default is screw mounting through the plate face. If you want flush screw heads, specify countersinking (C); Trimco's stretcher plates come countersunk with oval head screws as standard, but on a kick plate it is an option you call out.
8) What do I need to specify when ordering a Trimco K Series kick plate?
Four things settle the order: the series for thickness (K0064 is .064), the size as height x width, the finish, and any options. Heights run 7 to 16 inches against a 48 inch width, finishes are 605, 606, 613, 613E, 622 and 630, and options include heavy bevel, countersink, round corners, cutouts and adhesive mounting. Special finishes beyond the six are handled as SPEC.
9) Is the Trimco K0064 kick plate meant for commercial doors or will it work at home?
