1) How does the Klein ET920 USB meter get connected, does it plug into the port or inline?
The ET920 has to sit inline. It plugs into the USB-A or USB-C port being tested, and the device you are charging plugs into the meter, so all the current passes through it. There is no battery in it, it runs off the port under test. Once inline it reads voltage, current, capacity delivered, energy, and calculated resistance.
2) What voltage and amperage range will the Klein ET920 read on USB-A versus USB-C?
Both port types read 3 to 20V DC. Current range differs: 0.05 to 3A on USB-A and 0.05 to 5A on USB-C. Anything feeding more than those maximums should not be run through it.
3) Why does my Klein ET920 show zero current when the device is clearly charging?
Below 50 milliamperes the meter displays zero even though current is still passing through. The measuring floor is 0.05A on both USB-A and USB-C, so trickle charges and low-draw accessories will read as nothing. That is normal behavior, not a fault.
4) Can I use the Klein ET920 to check AC receptacles or line voltage?
No. The ET920 is a DC USB port meter only, rated 3 to 20V DC. It is not a line voltage tester and must never be put on a circuit exceeding its ratings. For anything above 25V RMS or 24V DC you need a proper multimeter or voltage tester instead.
5) Will the Klein ET920 work on fast-charging ports?
It tests most common standard USB-A and USB-C ports, including Qualcomm Quick Charge ports. The limit is the electrical range, not the protocol: 3 to 20V DC, up to 3A on A and 5A on C. A port operating outside that should not be tested with it.
