Von Duprin 050803 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Von Duprin 050803 pigtail kit actually do, and is it the strike itself?
The 050803 is the cable (pigtail) kit only, not an electric strike. It's the wiring lead that connects a Von Duprin 6300 or 6400 Series electric strike to the power supply feeding it. If your strike body is fine but the lead is damaged, pinched in the frame, or the connection has gone intermittent, this is the part you replace. If the strike itself has failed, you need the strike, not the pigtail.
2) Will the Von Duprin 050803 cable kit work on my electric strike?
Only on Von Duprin 6300 and 6400 Series electric strikes. The 050803 is built as a factory-matched component for those two series, so it isn't a general-purpose pigtail for other Von Duprin strike families or other brands. Check the model stamped on the strike or the frame prep before ordering, because a 6100, 6200 or another maker's strike takes a different lead.
3) My electric strike buzzes but won't release. Is the pigtail the problem?
It can be. On a 6300 or 6400 Series strike, the pigtail is the electrical interface between the power supply and the strike, so a broken conductor, a chafed lead where it crosses the frame, or a loose splice shows up as inconsistent release even though the strike is sound. The 050803 replaces that lead. Confirm the fault is in the wiring run and not the power supply output or the strike solenoid before you order, because the kit only addresses the cable side.
4) Do I need to pull the whole electric strike out of the frame to change the 050803 cable?
The 050803 is meant to drop into an existing 6300 or 6400 Series installation as a service replacement, so the swap is a wiring job rather than a re-prep of the frame. Your door prep, strike body and faceplate all stay as they are. Plan on access to the strike in the frame and to the connection point at the power supply end to land the new lead.
5) Is the Von Duprin 050803 pigtail kit a commercial part or is it for residential doors?
Commercial. The 050803 is built for commercial access control work, which is where the 6300 and 6400 Series electric strikes live: office buildings, schools, hospitals, retail, warehouses, government facilities, and multi-tenant residential entries. It's a service part for an installed access control system, not something you'd find on a house door.
6) Is the Von Duprin 050803 a genuine Von Duprin part or an aftermarket cable?
Genuine Von Duprin. The 050803 is sourced as a Von Duprin electric strike part and built to original equipment specification for the 6300 and 6400 Series. That matters on access control work where a facility has standardized on Von Duprin hardware and the maintenance spec calls for OEM components rather than a shop-made lead.
7) How do I order the Von Duprin 050803 pigtail kit, and are there finish or length options to pick?
There's one configuration, ordered as Von Duprin part number 050803. No finish, handing or length choices to specify, which is normal for a wiring component. Give your supplier the 050803 number and the series of strike it's going on (6300 or 6400) and that's the whole order.
