Von Duprin 90043 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Von Duprin 090043 dogging adaptor actually do on a 22 Series exit device?
The 090043 is a replacement dogging adaptor for Von Duprin 22 Series exit devices. It is the small component inside the device that supports the dogging function, which is what lets the pushpad be held depressed so the latch stays retracted and the door pushes free. If dogging has stopped holding on a 22 Series device, this is the part you replace rather than swapping the whole device.
2) Can I use a dogging adaptor on a fire rated exit device?
Not on a fire rated opening. The 090043 adaptor carries no fire rating, and mechanical dogging is not permitted on fire rated exit devices because the latch must be free to latch the door closed at all times. Use it on non-rated 22 Series openings; on a fire rated 22 Series device, dogging is not an option at all.
3) Can a Falcon or Accentra exit device part be used in place of the Von Duprin 090043 dogging adaptor?
No. The Von Duprin 090043 is a dogging adaptor built specifically for Von Duprin 22 Series exit devices, and it is a replacement part for that series only. The Falcon and Accentra exit device components are tied to their own devices: the Falcon 610061 is a concealed vertical top rod for the 24 Series Monarch F-25-C and F-25-CWDC devices, the Falcon 23981160 is a 2-3/8 inch square corner deadlatch for the Falcon T Series, and the Accentra 60-7010-0049-999 is a top latch component for the Accentra 7110/7120 devices. None of those are dogging hardware and none are made to the 22 Series.
4) My double doors need to be held open for deliveries but there is no mullion - is the 090043 the right part?
The Von Duprin 090043 supports the dogging function on a 22 Series exit device, which is what holds the pushbar depressed for free ingress; it does not address the gap between a pair of doors. For a double-door opening that needs a latching point, the Falcon 4023 is a steel mullion for double door exit device applications, and the Falcon 525 aluminum mullion stabilizers are the accessory that steadies a mullion in place. Those solve the opening; the 090043 solves the dogging function on the device itself.
5) How many dogging adaptors come in a Von Duprin 090043 order?
Each 090043 order is a package of two adaptors. For a single door repair that leaves you a spare on the shelf; for a pair of doors with 22 Series devices on both leaves, one package covers both.
6) Is this a genuine Von Duprin part suitable for a Grade 1 commercial spec?
It is a genuine Von Duprin component rated Grade 1 and specified for commercial use, so it keeps a 22 Series device on its original Grade 1 build rather than mixing in aftermarket internals. That matters on institutional and school openings where the hardware schedule calls out Grade 1 exit devices.
7) I have a pair of doors and want to hold both leaves open during deliveries. Does a dogging adaptor handle that?
Dogging on each 22 Series device holds that leaf's latch retracted, and the 090043 package of two covers both leaves. What it does not do is deal with the center of the opening: if your pair uses a removable mullion, that is a separate item, such as the Falcon 4023 steel mullion for double door exit device applications, with the Falcon 525 aluminum mullion stabilizers as a related accessory.
8) Can I use the 090043 dogging adaptor on a fire-rated opening, and what do others in the same class carry?
The Von Duprin 090043 dogging adaptor carries no fire rating, and mechanical dogging is generally not permitted on a fire-rated exit device. Among comparable exit device replacement components, the Accentra 7110/7120 top latch part and the Accentra 7110F top latch part are likewise listed without a fire rating. If the opening is fire-rated, the device on it should be specified as a fire exit device rather than retrofitted with dogging hardware.
9) My 22 Series device will not latch - do I need the 090043 or a different part?
The Von Duprin 090043 is a dogging adaptor; it governs whether the pushbar can be held down, not whether the latch throws. A latching complaint points at the latch assembly instead - the equivalent components in other lines are parts like the Accentra 7110F top latch replacement component or the Falcon 23981160 T Series 2-3/8 inch square corner deadlatch, each matched to its own device family. For a 22 Series device, order the 22 Series latch component rather than the 090043 dogging adaptor.
10) Is the Arrow 16RCR-27 rim housing an alternative to the Von Duprin 090043?
No - they do different jobs. The Arrow 16RCR-27 is a 6/7-pin SFIC rim housing for the 24/25 Series, which is the cylinder side of an exit device and is what you order when you need to key or rekey the device. The Von Duprin 090043 is a dogging adaptor for 22 Series exit devices, supplied as a package of 2, and relates to holding the device dogged down rather than to keying.
11) Where can I find the 22 Series prep dimensions and device details while I am doing this repair?
Von Duprin publishes the 22 Series catalog along with template index sheets for hollow metal door prep, wood door prep, and both hollow metal and wood door trims and strikes. Those are the documents to pull if you also need to confirm device prep, trim, or strike layout on the opening while the device is off the door.
