Von Duprin 24648180 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Von Duprin 24648180 top cable work on an 8 foot door?
No. The 24648180 top cable assembly is cut for door heights of 6'8" to 7'. On a taller opening the cable travel is wrong and the top latch won't retract or reset properly, so you need the cable assembly sized for that door height instead.
2) Which Von Duprin exit devices does the 24648180 cable fit?
It fits Von Duprin 33, 35, 98 and 99 Series concealed vertical rod devices. That covers both the narrow stile 33/35 family and the wide stile 98/99 family, so one part number services a mixed fleet of CVR openings as long as the doors are 6'8" to 7' tall.
3) Is this a top rod or a cable? My concealed vertical device has rods.
This is a cable assembly, not a rod. Von Duprin's concealed vertical devices come in both cable-operated and rod-operated versions, and the 24648180 only serves the cable type. If your device pulls the top latch with a solid rod, this part won't retrofit it.
4) Is the Falcon 610061 top rod an equivalent replacement for the Von Duprin 24648180 top cable assembly?
No. The Von Duprin 24648180 is a top cable assembly for 33, 35, 98 and 99 Series concealed vertical rod exit devices covering 6'8" to 7' door heights. The Falcon 610061 is a concealed vertical top rod for 24 Series Monarch F-25-C and F-25-CWDC exit devices. They serve the same position in the door - the top latch drive of a concealed vertical device - but one is a cable and the other a rod, and they belong to different device families. Match the part to the device chassis already in the door.
5) My concealed vertical device is an Accentra, not a Von Duprin - what top component applies?
The Von Duprin 24648180 top cable assembly is built for the 33, 35, 98 and 99 Series devices and should not be fitted to another manufacturer's chassis. For Accentra exit devices, the top latch replacement components are catalogued by device model: the 60-7010-0049-999 serves the 7110/7120, and the 60-7010-0050-999 serves the 7110F. Identify the device model stamped on the chassis before ordering.
6) Can I use this top cable on a fire rated exit device?
The 24648180 is carried as non fire rated, so don't put it into a labeled fire door assembly. Fire rated openings need the fire-labeled component for that device; substituting a non-rated part can void the door label.
7) My concealed vertical exit device is a Falcon, not Von Duprin. Does this cable fit?
No. The 24648180 is built for the Von Duprin 33/35/98/99 concealed vertical devices only. For a Falcon 24 Series Monarch concealed vertical, the corresponding top component is the Falcon 610061 top rod for F-25-C and F-25-CWDC devices.
8) Does replacing the top cable also fix a top latch that won't hold?
Not necessarily. A stretched or broken cable shows up as a top latch that won't retract or won't fully throw; a worn latch head itself is a separate part. If the latch is the problem, that's a top latch replacement component, like the Accentra 7110/7120 top latch part on the Accentra side. Diagnose which one is failing before ordering.
9) Does the Von Duprin 24648180 work on a fire-rated opening?
The Von Duprin 24648180 top cable assembly carries a Fire Rating value of No. Among the comparable exit device components, the Accentra 60-7010-0049-999 for the 7110/7120 and the 60-7010-0050-999 for the 7110F are likewise not fire rated. For a labeled opening, specify the fire-rated version of the device family the door was listed with rather than substituting a non-rated component.
10) We want to avoid concealed vertical rod hardware on our double doors entirely - what is the alternative?
The Von Duprin 24648180 is a service part for concealed vertical rod devices on 6'8" to 7' doors, so it only applies where that configuration stays. If you are converting a pair away from vertical rods, the common route is a removable mullion with rim devices: the Falcon 4023 is a steel mullion for double door exit device applications, and the Falcon 525 aluminum mullion stabilizers are the accessory that steadies that arrangement. That path changes the device type on both leaves, not just the top hardware.
11) What looks like a substitute for the 24648180 but is not?
Two parts get confused with it. The Falcon 23981160 is a 2-3/8 inch square corner deadlatch service part for T Series devices - a latch, not a top cable, and a different series. The Arrow 16RCR-27 is a 6/7-pin SFIC rim housing for 24/25 Series - a cylinder housing that has nothing to do with vertical latch travel. The Von Duprin 24648180 is the top cable assembly that drives the top latch on 33, 35, 98 and 99 Series concealed vertical rod devices.
12) Is this an OEM Von Duprin part or aftermarket?
Genuine Von Duprin replacement component, catalogued as a replacement part for the 33/35/98/99 concealed vertical family. For a property manager standardizing on Von Duprin, that keeps the device matching its original build.
13) Is this cable rated for high traffic commercial use?
Yes. It's a Grade 1 commercial component, which is the heaviest ANSI/BHMA duty class for door hardware and the right level for schools, hospitals, and other high-cycle openings.
