1) Will the Von Duprin 388NL trim fit a 98 or 99 Series exit device?
No. The 388NL night latch trim is built for the Von Duprin 33A and 35A Series only, the narrow stile devices used on aluminum and glass entrance doors. A 98 or 99 wide stile device takes Von Duprin's own trim for that series instead. Confirm the series stamped on the device before you order, because the 388NL is dedicated hardware, not a universal escutcheon.
2) Does the Von Duprin 388NL come with a cylinder, and what kind do I need?
A rim cylinder is what the 388NL takes, and it is not included. Order one to suit your keying, and it can be cut into an existing master key system rather than adding another key to the ring. Rim cylinders from the major manufacturers work with it, so a locksmith keying a building to one keyway is not forced onto a proprietary cylinder. Cylinder projection is the detail to settle before ordering so the cam engages the device correctly.
3) The outside trim on my Von Duprin exit device is broken but the push bar is fine. Can I replace just the trim?
If the device is a 33A or 35A, yes. The 388NL is the exterior trim and it is ordered on its own, apart from the device and apart from the cylinder. Two things to sort out: the rim cylinder, which you either reuse from the old trim or buy new, and the finish, since the replacement should match the rest of the opening. Handing is not a question, the trim is non-handed.
4) The door already has a Sargent exit device. What is the Sargent equivalent of the Von Duprin 388NL night latch trim?
The 388NL is built for Von Duprin 33A and 35A Series exit devices, so it does not cross over to a Sargent chassis. On Sargent hardware the night latch trims are the 704ET, a Grade 1 heavy duty night latch lever trim for 700 Series devices with field reversible operation; the 704-ETL, a Grade 1 heavy duty night latch lever trim for PE Series devices with a key retract function; and the 744, a Grade 1 night latch trim with freewheeling operation and key retracts latch for 8700 and 8900 Series surface vertical rod and mortise devices. 5) Our building standard is Corbin Russwin, not Von Duprin. Is there a night latch trim like the 388NL for those devices?

Electrified exit trims include the Command Access ET15, ET25 and ET26, all with 12V and 24V operation and fail safe or fail secure options, the ET26 built Grade 1 with a field reversible design; the Command Access 230L, an electrified Von Duprin 230L exit trim for V96, 36 and 23 Series devices; and from Dormakaba, the PowerPlex P201U for rim, mortise and surface vertical rod devices and the E-Plex 201U wide stile electronic pushbutton exit trim. If the opening stays on a key, the 388NL is the 33A and 35A Series trim; if it goes on the access control system, the trim has to change with it.
7) Can the 388NL be used on a pair of doors with vertical rod devices, or only on rim devices?
Both. The 388NL works with 33A and 35A devices in rim and vertical rod configurations, so a pair of doors running surface vertical rods gets keyed outside access the same way a single rim opening does, on whichever leaf you want the key to work. The function does not change with the device type: the key retracts the latch from outside, and the push pad inside stays free for egress at all times.
8) Do I have to order the Von Duprin 388NL left hand or right hand?
