Von Duprin 970278 US4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the Von Duprin 970278, and does it include the electric strike itself?
The 970278 is the faceplate only, a genuine Von Duprin replacement part for their electric strike assemblies. You get the plate that covers the strike prep in the frame, not the strike body, solenoid, or keeper. If the existing strike still works and only the visible plate is damaged or mismatched, this is the piece you order; if the strike mechanism has failed, you need a complete strike assembly instead.
2) What finishes does the Von Duprin 970278 electric strike faceplate come in?
Six finishes: 630 satin stainless steel, 629 bright stainless steel, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 605 bright brass, and 606 satin brass. For a property manager trying to match a run of openings, 630 is the usual commercial default on stainless frames, while 613 and 612 are the ones to pick if the existing door hardware is bronze. Order the finish code that matches the trim already on the opening, since the plate is the visible part of the strike.
3) Can I replace just the faceplate instead of the whole electric strike?
That is the point of the 970278. It lets a maintenance tech swap the damaged or wrong-finish plate and leave the rest of the Von Duprin strike assembly in the frame, so the opening comes back into service faster and the wiring is never disturbed. Useful for MRO crews standardizing finish across a building without rebuying complete strikes.
4) Will an aftermarket faceplate work on a Von Duprin electric strike, or do I need the OEM part?
Use the Von Duprin part. The 970278 is factory-sourced and cut to the original prep and screw pattern of the Von Duprin strike it belongs to, so it drops back onto the existing assembly without filing the frame or re-drilling. A generic plate rarely lines up with both the keeper opening and the mounting holes.
5) Is the 970278 faceplate suitable for a school or hospital entry, or is it a light-duty residential part?
It is a commercial part, built for Von Duprin electric strike installations in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential, and government buildings. It is not sold as a residential-grade item.
