Von Duprin 971417 US4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the Von Duprin 971417, a whole electric strike or just the plate?
The 971417 is the faceplate alone, a replacement mounting plate for a Von Duprin electric strike assembly. It is the flat plate that sits in the frame prep, not the strike body, solenoid, or keeper. If your strike body has failed you need the strike itself; if the plate is bent, scarred, or the wrong finish, this is the part that fixes it.
2) Will I have to re-cut the door frame to install this faceplate?
No. The 971417 is built as an OEM drop-in replacement, so it restores the original setup without modification to the frame or the strike body. It goes back into the existing prep on a compatible Von Duprin electric strike.
3) What finishes does the Von Duprin 971417 electric strike faceplate come in?
Six finishes: 630 satin stainless steel, 629 bright stainless steel, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 605 bright brass, and 606 satin brass. Since the faceplate is the only visible part of the strike once the frame is closed up, pick the number that matches the exit device and trim already on the opening rather than guessing by name.
4) Can I use a generic faceplate instead of the genuine Von Duprin 971417?
The 971417 is made to match original factory specifications for the Von Duprin strike it belongs to, which is what keeps the keeper aligned and the strike operating correctly. A plate cut to different dimensions can throw off that alignment. If you are standardizing a building on Von Duprin electric strikes, the OEM plate is the part that keeps every opening interchangeable.
5) I have several Von Duprin electric strikes in one building with mismatched plates. Can I order one finish across all of them?
Yes, as long as each strike takes the 971417 plate. All six finishes are the same part number, so a property manager can order a single finish, 630 satin stainless being the usual commercial choice, and bring every opening to a matching look without touching the strike bodies. The plate is the replaceable, visible piece.
6) Is the 971417 faceplate meant for commercial openings or will it work on a house door?
It is a commercial part. The 971417 belongs to the Von Duprin electric strike parts line and is intended for commercial door hardware, the kind of access-controlled openings found in offices, schools, hospitals, retail, and multi-tenant buildings. There is no residential version of it.
