Von Duprin 970310 US4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Von Duprin 970310?
The 970310 is a replacement electric strike faceplate from Von Duprin, sold as a service part rather than a complete strike. It is the metal plate that mortises into the frame and carries the keeper opening, so you would buy it to replace a faceplate that has been bent, gouged, or damaged on an existing Von Duprin electric strike, not to add a new strike to a door.
2) What finishes does the Von Duprin 970310 electric strike faceplate come in?
Six BHMA finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 629 bright stainless steel, and 630 satin stainless steel. For a service call, match the finish code to the rest of the opening, 630 satin stainless being the usual pairing with commercial exit device and frame hardware.
3) Will a generic aftermarket faceplate work instead of the Von Duprin 970310?
Stick with the OEM plate. The 970310 is manufactured to Von Duprin's own faceplate geometry, and that geometry is what keeps the latch engaging the keeper correctly once the plate is screwed into the frame. An off-size plate throws off the keeper alignment and the strike stops releasing cleanly.
4) I have a Von Duprin electric strike with a damaged faceplate. Do I need to pull the whole strike out of the frame?
Not necessarily. Because the 970310 is sold as a standalone faceplate for compatible Von Duprin electric strike assemblies, a worn or damaged plate can be swapped on an existing installation while the strike body stays in the frame prep. Confirm your strike model takes the 970310 plate before ordering.
5) Is the 970310 faceplate suitable for a high-traffic commercial opening?
Yes, it is a commercial-grade part, catalogued for commercial rather than residential use, and Von Duprin lists it for office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government facilities. Property managers standardizing across a building can order the same plate in one finish for every affected opening.
