Von Duprin 970388 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Von Duprin electric strikes does the 970388 fail safe slider fit?
The 970388 slider is made for Von Duprin 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 and 6223 electric strikes. That's the full list it's built for. If your strike is a different Von Duprin 6000 series model, this isn't the slider for it, so pull the model number off the strike body or the original submittal before you order.
2) What does the FS slider actually do in a Von Duprin electric strike?
The slider is the internal moving part that lets the keeper release. On the 970388 it is the fail safe (FS) version, meaning the strike sits unlocked when power drops and locks only while energized. Swapping in this part restores that fail safe behavior on a 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 or 6223 strike without replacing the whole unit.
3) My electric strike locks when the power goes out. Is the 970388 the right replacement part?
No. The 970388 is the fail safe slider, and a strike that stays locked on power loss is running fail secure. Installing a fail safe slider would flip that opening to unlocked whenever the power drops, which is usually not what an egress or a secured room was designed for. Order the fail secure slider for your 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 or 6223 instead, or confirm with your access control drawings which mode that door is supposed to be in.
4) Can I convert a fail secure Von Duprin 6221 strike to fail safe by changing the slider?
Changing the slider is how the mode is set on these strikes, and the 970388 is the fail safe (FS) part for the 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 and 6223. Bear in mind the electrical consequence before you do it: fail safe means the strike is unlocked any time the door loses power, so it draws current continuously to stay locked and it will release on a power failure or a fire alarm power drop. Make sure that is the behavior the opening is specified for.
5) Do I need to replace the whole electric strike or just the slider?
If the strike body, keeper and solenoid are sound and it's the slider that's worn, damaged, or set to the wrong mode, the 970388 gets a 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 or 6223 back in service on its own. That keeps the existing frame prep and wiring untouched, which is the reason to go this route rather than swapping the strike. Replace the whole unit only if the frame cutout, wiring or solenoid is the problem.
6) Will the 970388 slider work in a Von Duprin 6111 or 6112 electric strike?
No. This slider is built for the 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 and 6223 only. Other Von Duprin strike families use their own slider part numbers, so ordering the 970388 for one of them means a part that will not seat correctly. Read the model off the strike itself rather than off the door schedule, since strikes get substituted during construction.
7) I manage a building with several electric strikes. How do I know which slider to order for each door?
Two things decide it: the strike model and the mode that door needs. The 970388 covers Von Duprin 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 and 6223 strikes and sets them fail safe, which unlocks on power loss. Doors that must stay secure through a power outage need the fail secure slider instead. Note the model number stamped on each strike and whether that opening is meant to release or hold on power failure, then order per door rather than buying one part number for the whole building.
8) Is the Von Duprin 970388 a genuine OEM part or an aftermarket slider?
It's a genuine Von Duprin component, not a copy. For a locksmith or integrator servicing a 6211WF, 6212WF, 6221 or 6223, that matters because the slider is a fitted internal part and an off-brand piece can bind or fail to release cleanly in the keeper.
