1) Does the WAC Archetype WS-W15918 wall sconce need a separate LED driver or transformer?
No. The 18 inch Archetype runs on 120V AC LED technology, so there's no driver or transformer to mount or find space for. It wires straight to line voltage and fits a standard pancake junction box, which is what makes it workable on shallow exterior walls and stone facades where a deep box isn't an option. 277V, 240V, or custom color temperature versions are special order.
2) Can the WS-W15918 Archetype sconce be used outdoors in the rain, or is it covered locations only?
It is wet location rated and carries an IP65 rating along with ETL and cETL listings, so direct rain exposure is fine. It is also rated for indoor use, so the same fixture works in a breezeway, a garage, or a covered entry without switching part numbers.
3) What dimmer works with the WAC Archetype LED wall light?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The Archetype's 120V AC LED engine dims smoothly on ELV control; a standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is the wrong type and will typically give you flicker or a limited dim range. Specify ELV on the plans if these are going on a dimmed exterior circuit.
4) Will the WAC Archetype WS-W15918 meet ADA and California Title 24 requirements for an exterior entry?
It is listed as ADA compliant and meets both Title 24 and Title 20 for California work. It is also Dark Sky rated, which matters on municipal and HOA projects with light-trespass ordinances. It is not Energy Star listed.
5) How big is the 18 inch Archetype sconce and how much wall does the backplate cover?
The fixture measures 18 inches high by 6 inches wide, with a 6 inch backplate. That 6 inch plate is what has to sit flat and cover the junction box, so on narrow pilasters or column faces, measure the flat area before committing. Height is the deciding dimension if you are spacing these between windows or door heads.
6) Does this Archetype sconce throw light up and down, or only down?
Both. It is an up and down fixture, with a flood beam spread through a white diffuser lens, so you get a wash on the wall above and below rather than a single narrow spot. That makes it a reasonable choice for grazing a building face, landscape walls, or sculptural elements where you want two scallops instead of one.
7) Do I have to buy lamps for the WS-W15918, and can the LED be replaced later?
Lamping is included and integrated, so there is nothing to order alongside it. The tradeoff is that the LED board is not a replaceable lamp. Average rated life is 54,000 hours, which is why it gets specified on facades and high entries where relamping means a lift.
8) What color temperature and wattage does the 18 inch Archetype draw, and will it match my other exterior fixtures?
It is 3000K at 13 watts. That warm-white 3000K is the common residential and hospitality exterior color, so it will read consistent with most existing entry and landscape lighting at the same temperature. If your site is standardized on a different CCT, WAC offers custom color temperature by special order rather than as a stock option.
9) What finish does the WAC Archetype WS-W15918 come in, and how will it hold up outside?
Black is the finish, ordered as WS-W15918-BK. The body is aluminum with a glass diffuser lens, which is the normal combination for a wet-rated exterior sconce and keeps the weight down for pancake-box mounting.
10) Is this Archetype fixture hardwired or does it plug in?
Hardwired only. There is no cord or plug, so an exterior junction box has to be in place on the wall before the sconce goes up. Plan the box location to the 6 inch backplate so the plate covers the opening cleanly.
