120V Track systems are modular and can be designed for multiple applications in nearly any interior environment. Suspension kits are used to suspend track systems beneath a surface. Kit includes a power feedable canopy cover, hallow suspension rod to slide power cables through, and a clip to attach the rod to the track. Suspension rods are standard 18, 24, 36, and 48 inch sizes. Rods may be field cut to custom lengths, use an SK05 field shortening suspension rod adapter (sold separately) when field cutting rods to custom lengths. For slope ceilings, SK14 Sloped ceiling adapter (also sold separately) can be used with a suspension kit.

1) Will the WAC SK18 suspension kit work with H track, or is it only for J/J2?
The SK18 suspension kit fits H, J/J2, and L track systems, so it covers all four of WAC's 120V track profiles. That's what makes it useful on a mixed building where the older H track runs in one area and J2 in another; the same kit and the same finish work in both places. It's a 120V line voltage component and hardwired, not a plug-in.
2) How far below the ceiling does the WAC SK18 drop the track?
18 inches, measured on the rod. The SK18 is the shortest of the standard suspension rod lengths WAC offers; 24, 36, and 48 inch rods cover deeper drops. The canopy at the ceiling is 4.25 inches across and 0.63 inches deep. If 18 inches is longer than you need, the rod can be field cut, but that requires the SK05 field shortening adapter.
3) Can I cut the 18 inch suspension rod shorter on site?
Yes, the rod can be field cut to a custom length, but you need the SK05 field shortening suspension rod adapter to do it, and that's a separate order. Add one SK05 per rod you plan to cut. Don't cut without it: the rod is hollow because the power cables run through it, so the cut end needs the adapter to land correctly at the canopy.
4) Will a WAC suspension kit work on a sloped ceiling?
Not on its own. On a slope you add the SK14 sloped ceiling adapter, ordered separately, which lets the canopy sit flush to the pitched surface while the rod hangs plumb. On a flat ceiling the kit installs as supplied. Worth catching at takeoff on a job with vaulted or shed ceilings, because the adapter count is one per kit.
5) Does the WAC SK18 suspension kit feed power to the track, or do I still need a separate power feed?
The canopy on the SK18 is power feedable, and the rod is hollow so the supply cables pass down through it into the track. That means the suspension point doubles as the feed on a 120V hardwired system. The kit ships with the canopy cover, the rod, and the clip that fastens the rod to the track.
6) Can WAC SK18 suspension kits be used in a covered exterior walkway or a damp area?
No. The SK18 is rated for dry locations only and listed for interior use, so a covered walkway, a parking structure, a bathroom over a tub, or a commercial kitchen with washdown is out of scope. It carries UL and cUL listings for dry locations. For anything damp or wet rated, specify a fixture and mounting system rated for that location instead.
7) What finishes does the WAC SK18 come in, and can I match it to the track?
Four finishes: black (SK18-BK), brushed nickel (SK18-BN), dark bronze (SK18-DB), and white (SK18-WT). Those are the standard WAC track finishes, so the canopy and rod can be specified to match the track run rather than contrast with it. On a retail or hospitality ceiling where the drop is visible, that's usually the deciding detail.
8) Is the WAC SK18 a complete track lighting system, or do I need to order track and heads separately?
It's a mounting accessory only, not a system. The SK18 gives you the drop: canopy, rod, and track clip. The track sections, connectors, feeds, and the fixture heads are all separate line items. Plan the order as track length first, then two suspension kits per 2ft section or per 4ft of longer run, then heads.
9) Does WAC track suspension hardware meet Title 24 or ADA requirements?
The SK18 suspension kit is not Title 24 compliant and is not ADA compliant, so on a California job with Title 24 lighting requirements the compliance has to come from the fixtures and controls on the track, not from the suspension hardware. ADA protrusion limits are worth checking separately on any pendant drop in a circulation path.
10) Should I use a suspension kit or mount WAC track directly to the ceiling?
Direct mounting is the default and cheaper option when the ceiling height already puts the heads where you want them. Go to a suspension kit like the SK18 when the ceiling is too high for the throw you need, when you're dropping below an open structural deck or exposed joists, or when you need to clear ductwork or a coffered ceiling. The tradeoff is part count: every 2ft section or every 4ft of longer run takes two kits, plus an SK14 adapter per kit on a sloped ceiling.
11) What is the WAC SK18 suspension rod and canopy made of?
Aluminum. That keeps the hanging weight down on a long track run and is why the rod can be field cut with ordinary tools when paired with the SK05 adapter. Finish is applied over the aluminum in black, brushed nickel, dark bronze, or white.
