WAC Lighting WAC-6641 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need a transformer for the WAC Park 12V LED bollard, or does it wire straight to line voltage?
It runs on 12V only, so it has to be fed from a landscape transformer. A magnetic or electronic power supply is required and sold separately. The LED module accepts 9-15V AC input, which is why it drops straight onto an existing low voltage landscape run without any extra driver at the fixture. If you need to land on 120V or 277V branch circuit instead, order the Park bollard in that voltage rather than this one.
2) Can I tie this bollard into a landscape lighting run I already have in the ground?
Yes. The Park bollard ships with a 36 inch lead wire and two gel filled direct burial wire nuts, so you splice it into an existing 12V run without a junction box. Load planning is easy too: it draws 5.5W (6VA), so a bank of them adds up slowly against transformer capacity.
3) How does the Park LED bollard mount, and can it go in a concrete walkway?
A guardian spike comes in the box, which covers soft ground, planting beds and mulch. For a hardscape or concrete pour you need the M66-CON-KIT concrete pour kit, ordered separately. The fixture is not reversible mounted, so it installs upright only.
4) Will this bollard hold up to sprinklers, coastal air and pressure washing?
It is factory sealed and water tight at IP66, which covers high pressure water jets, and it carries a Wet location rating with UL and cUL listing. The housing is k-alloy die cast aluminum, the alloy WAC uses for harsh outdoor exposure. Irrigation spray and washdown are not a problem.
5) How tall is the WAC Park bollard and how much light does it actually put out?
It stands 27 inches, with a 6 inch width and 4 inch length footprint. Output is up to 160 lumens at 5.5W with a CRI of 90. That is path and accent level light, not area lighting, so space them along a walk rather than expecting one to cover a courtyard.
6) What color temperatures and finishes can I order the Park bollard in?
Four combinations: 2700K or 3000K, each in black or bronze. The order numbers are 6641-27BK, 6641-27BZ, 6641-30BK and 6641-30BZ. Pick 2700K if you are matching warm residential landscape lighting, 3000K if the rest of the site is a slightly cooler white.
7) Can these bollards be dimmed, and what dimmer do I use?
Yes, smooth continuous dimming down to 10 percent. On the 12V version you dim at the transformer with a magnetic low voltage (MLV) dimmer. Triac or ELV dimmers apply to the 120V version and ELV to the 277V version, so do not spec an ELV dimmer for this low voltage fixture.
8) Is the LED replaceable, or is the whole bollard scrap when it fails?
The LED is an integrated but replaceable module, which matters for an MRO or property maintenance program: you are not throwing away a die cast housing when the light source ages out. Rated life is 60,000 hours.
9) Does the Park bollard meet Title 24 for a California job?
It is listed as Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated, so if a rebate program on your project requires Energy Star specifically, this one will not qualify on that basis.
10) Does the Park bollard throw light up into people's eyes or down onto the path?
Down and out. The light source is concealed behind an acrylic white diffuser inside the housing and washes out through long rectangular openings, so the LED itself is not visible from a standing viewpoint. The lens is frosted glass. That makes it workable along walkways and entry drives where glare into a window or a driver's eyes would be a complaint.
