120V step and wall lights by WAC Lighting are offered in a variety of styles and can be installed onto a standard 2in x 4in electrical junction box. 1) Can this WAC LEDme vertical step light be used outdoors in the rain or in a wash-down area?
Yes. The WL-LED201 is factory sealed, wet location rated, and carries an IP66 rating for protection against high-pressure water jets, so exterior stairs, walkways and exposed walls are all in scope. It is UL and cUL listed and works indoors as well.
2) Is the amber version of the WAC step light turtle friendly for a coastal property?
The amber LED option, ordered as WL-LED201-AM-WT, is the turtle friendly color. One caution for oceanfront work: the standard housing is k-alloy aluminum, and for corrosive coastal or marine exposure WAC recommends the stainless steel (-SS) or bronze-coated solid brass (-BBR) finish versions instead.
3) Does this step light meet Title 24 and ADA requirements for a commercial stairwell?
Both are listed for the WL-LED201: ADA compliant and Title 24 compliant. It is also Dark Sky rated, which matters on exterior installs in municipalities with light trespass ordinances. It is not Energy Star rated.
4) Do I need a separate transformer or driver for the WL-LED201?
No. It is a 120V hardwired luminaire that lands directly on line voltage in the junction box, so no low voltage transformer is needed. That also means it wires like any other 120V fixture on the circuit rather than needing a landscape lighting run.
5) What color temperatures and finish does the WL-LED201 vertical step light come in?
Three combinations: 2700K, 3000K, or amber, all in a white finish (WL-LED201-27-WT, -30-WT and -AM-WT). The LED is integrated and factory installed, so color temperature is fixed at the time you order. Pick one and stick with it across a stair run or the openings will not match.
6) Can the WAC vertical step light be rotated so the light throws down instead of up?
Yes, it is a reversible mounting fixture, so you can orient it to aim the output where the stair or path needs it rather than being locked to one direction. The frosted glass lens spreads the output to keep glare low at eye level.
7) Is there a version of this WAC step light with a built-in dusk-to-dawn photocell?
Yes, WAC offers a daylight photocell sensor option that switches the steplight on at dusk and off at dawn automatically, under WL-LED102 and WL-LED202. If you want automatic operation without running the fixtures through a time clock or contactor, order those instead of the WL-LED201.
