WAC Lighting WAC-WS-37034 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the 34 inch Mercer vanity light mount on a standard pancake junction box?
Yes. The Mercer WS-37034 uses 120V AC LED technology with no separate driver or transformer, so the backplate fits on a pancake junction box. The backplate itself runs 19.6 inches long, so the fixture hides a normal box easily but you need 19.6 inches of clear wall for the plate even though the fixture spans 34 inches overall.
2) Is this WAC Mercer light safe to install in a bathroom over a shower or tub area?
The Mercer WS-37034 carries a Damp location rating with IP44 ingress protection and is listed for indoor or covered outdoor use. That covers a normal bathroom including steam and splash exposure near a vanity. It is not wet-rated, so do not place it inside a shower enclosure or anywhere it takes direct water.
3) What dimmer do I need for the WAC Mercer LED vanity light?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The fixture's integrated 120V LED dims smoothly and continuously on ELV control. A standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is the wrong control here and will typically flicker or limit range, so spec the ELV type when you order the device for the wall box.
4) Does the WAC Mercer vanity light meet ADA and California Title 24 requirements?
Yes on both. The Mercer WS-37034 is listed ADA compliant, and it meets California Title 24 and Title 20 requirements. It is ETL and cETL listed for the US and Canada. It is not Energy Star rated.
5) Do the LEDs in this WAC Mercer fixture get replaced when they fail?
No. The light source is an integrated LED, included with the fixture and rated for an average 84,000 hours. There is no lamp socket and no bulb to stock or change, which is why it suits multi-family and hospitality maintenance programs. When the LED eventually ends its life, the fixture is replaced rather than relamped.
6) Can I get the 34 inch Mercer in 277V for a commercial building, or in a different color temperature?
The standard build is 120V at 3000K. WAC offers 277V, 240V, or custom CCT versions of the Mercer as a special order, so for a 277V commercial panel you are placing a special-order request rather than buying the stock configuration.
7) What finishes does the 34 inch WAC Mercer come in for matching other fixtures in a bathroom?
Two finishes: Aged Brass (WS-37034-AB) and Brushed Nickel (WS-37034-BN). Both are the 3000K version. If you are standardizing a building, those are the two Mercer finish options to match faucets and hardware against.
8) What is the Mercer vanity bar actually made of, and will it hold up in a high-humidity bathroom?
Aluminum hardware with a glass diffuser, the shade being opal etched triplex glass. Aluminum does not rust, and the fixture is damp-rated with IP44 protection, which is why it holds up in bathrooms and covered exterior locations where a steel-bodied fixture would corrode.
9) Can the WAC Mercer be hardwired as a wall sconce in a hallway, not just over a vanity?
Yes. It is a hardwired wall fixture and WAC lists it for mounting over a bathroom vanity or as a wall sconce. At 34 inches wide by 4.5 inches high with a flood distribution, it reads as a long horizontal sconce in a corridor or entry. There is no plug or cord option, so it needs a wall box and a feed.
