WAC Lighting PD-95838-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How low can the WAC Trap 38 inch LED pendant hang, and can the cables be shortened?
Hang height runs from 14 inches up to 147 inches, on cable suspension with 150 inches of supply wire to work with. That range covers everything from a tight foyer drop to a two story stairwell. The fixture itself is only 7.5 inches tall, so most of the drop is cable.
2) Will the WAC Trap 38 inch pendant mount on a sloped ceiling?
Yes. The Trap pendant is rated for sloped ceiling mounting, and the driver sits inside the canopy so there is no remote driver to find a home for. The canopy is 8.44 inches across, which is what you are covering on the ceiling.
3) Can I put this WAC pendant on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
Damp location rated and IP44, so a covered exterior area such as a porch, breezeway, or covered patio is fine, as is a bathroom or similar humid interior space. Direct rain or wet location exposure is not what it is rated for.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC Trap LED pendant?
It takes either ELV or 0-10V control. On ELV you get 100 percent down to 10 percent; on 0-10V it goes to 5 percent. Standard incandescent or TRIAC wall dimmers are not the right control for it, so spec the driver type into your dimming plan before rough-in.
5) Does the WAC Trap pendant run on 277V commercial power?
Yes. The input is 120-277V, 50/60Hz, so the same fixture works on a 120V residential circuit or a 277V commercial lighting branch with no separate part number. That is useful when you are standardizing one pendant across a building with mixed voltages.
6) What size opening or table does a 38 inch Trap pendant suit?
It is a large ring, 38 inches in diameter and 7.5 inches deep, so it wants a room with the ceiling height and floor area to carry it: a long dining table, a hotel lobby, a conference room, or an open stair. At 4293 delivered lumens in flood distribution it is meant to light a zone, not a task spot.
7) Does the 38 inch Trap pendant meet California Title 24?
It is listed as Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, and it carries ETL and cETL listings for the US and Canada. It is not Energy Star rated and it is not ADA compliant, though ADA is a wall fixture concern rather than a ceiling pendant one.
8) Can the LED be replaced in the WAC Trap pendant, or is the whole fixture disposable?
The LED is integrated, one light source, supplied with the fixture. There is no socket and no lamp to restock. Rated life is 50,000 hours, so for an MRO stockroom this is a fixture-level replacement item rather than a lamp-level one.
9) What color light does the WAC Trap pendant give, and is the color rendering good enough for retail or hospitality?
Fixed 3000K warm white with a CRI of 90, which is the range hospitality and retail specs usually call for when finishes and skin tones have to look right. It is not a color-selectable fixture, so every unit matches the others out of the box.
10) How much power does the 38 inch Trap pendant draw for load calculations?
Rate the 38 inch Trap at 79W. The Trap family spans 35W, 65W, and 79W across its sizes, and 79W is the figure for this one. Run that against your 120V or 277V circuit when you are counting fixtures on a branch.
