1) Does the WAC Sodor WS-W15708 wall light need a separate LED driver or transformer?
No. The Sodor WS-W15708 uses WAC's ACLED technology, so it runs directly on 120V line voltage with no remote driver or transformer. It wires straight to a standard or pancake junction box, which keeps the rough-in simple on a retrofit where there is no room behind the backplate for a driver.
2) Can the Sodor WS-W15708 be used in an exposed outdoor location like an uncovered entry or a poolside wall?
Yes. It carries a Wet location rating and an IP65 rating along with ETL and cETL listings, so direct rain exposure is acceptable. The light engine is factory sealed and the die cast aluminum shade wears a weather resistant powder coat. Plan on swapping the dimmer at the same time you swap the fixture.
4) What size junction box opening does the 8 inch backplate on the WAC Sodor sconce cover?
The backplate measures 8 inches and the fixture is 8 inches wide by 5.38 inches high, so it covers a standard round or octagonal junction box opening with room to spare. Pancake boxes are fine too. If you are replacing an older lantern, check that the existing box mounting holes fall inside that 8 inch footprint before you patch the siding or stucco.
5) How much light does the WS-W15708 Sodor put out, and is it enough for a front entry or a walkway?
750 lumens from a 12W integrated LED at 3000K, with a flood beam spread through a white diffuser lens. That is a warm white output in the range of a typical entry lantern, and the up/down mounting throws light on the wall above and onto the ground below.
